Recovery of NEF Image Files

Project Description:

We have up to 50 potentially damaged or corrupted NEF image files. We say potentially because the files can still be viewed in Windows Live Photo Gallery but for some reason we are unable to export them to 16-Bit, uncompressed TIFFs using any Nikon software tool as part of our normal workflow.

Though in this case we are mainly looking for a solution, there is the potential for other ongoing image projects provided you have the needed skills.


We are looking for the following in order of preference:

1 - A simple method that will fix (if needed) these files so they can be successfully exported.

2 - A free tool that will fix (if needed) these files so they can be successfully exported.

3 - An inexpensive tool that will fix these files so they can be successfully exported.

4 - A free tool that will allow high-quality screen capture of ENTIRE image in one pass.

5 - An inexpensive tool that will allow high-quality screen capture of ENTIRE image in one pass.

6 - Someone who will screen capture all portions of each image, precisely stitch each part together and then save the composite as a 16-Bit, uncompressed Tiff. (This is the method we are currently using.)


Other Requirements:
- Your results must be as close to original, unedited image quality as possible.
- You ARE NOT to perform any retouching or correction; your job is only to help recover the original.
- IF you choose option 6 (above) you must have a fast internet connection and provide a quote to recover up to 50 images. Note, you only need to include the model, prop and immediately surrounding background in your composite. Thus, it is ok for your composite to have jagged edges.


To be considered:

2 - Fix NEF file (if possible) or recover image to 16-Bit, uncompressed TIFF using your technique.
3 - Upload "recovered" image to a temporary server.
4 - Contact us providing link to recovered image and number corresponding to recovery method used.


One final note. Responders that do not even bother to read the full project description or follow the required steps need not respond. Simply providing a link to your profile and portfolio is a waste of your time and ours.
