Excel spreadsheet expert with SpreadsheetWEB.com experience.

The application is to be created in Excel 2007, and then uploaded to work in spreadsheetweb.com, ensuring that it works there. A portion of the Excel spreadsheet has been completed, and can therefore act as a specification. However, Spreadsheet.com does not support all Excel functionality. For instance, Microsoft VB is not supported. And, it does not support Conditional Formatting, so some of the already-completed spreadsheet logic must be accomplished in another way. This is why specific SpreadsheetWEB.com experience is a must.

Therefore this is not an Excel 2007 developer gig. Nor is this right for most power Excel users.

Very good facility in English, and previous experience working in corporate environments gathering requirements for business applications (but not necessarily Excel-related) is a must. This because: once you understand what is required, as long as you have the skills noted above -- particularly knowledge of the limitations of SpreadsheetWEB.com -- it will not take long to create what is needed.

I have several different documents that explain the task at hand from several different points of view. I have not included some because they would reveal our identity, violating freelancer.com rules. This makes experience with translating business needs into applications more important than it would be otherwise.

This application automates the configuration of a "rust belt" product. This configuration work has been performed, manually to create customer quotations for some time. Currently, prospects enter information into a Web-based form on our website. There are, at most, 15 different variables entered. Many are yes/no or forced choice from a list.

This application will be used solely by resellers. It is, therefore, not expected that this will need to be "pretty" in any sense -- it just can't be confusing, and must lead the distributor sales rep to the right answer.

The reason why Excel is preferred over a forms-based Web application is that three of the data elements that drive the configuration choices are numbers. The numbers must then be tested (less than, greater than, etc.) as numbers -- not text. Based on the answer to those tests, different components are proposed.

Last Fall, the current functionality of forms-building Web-based tools DID support this same application that will now be posted at SpreadsheetWEB.com, just barely; the business requirements outgrew the application platform. In Oct. 2009, a slightly simpler version of this project was successfully created in Formstack (the erstwhile Formspring). This will give you an idea of the relative simplicity of this application.

The quotes we are currently producing never contain more than 10 line items, frequently only 5 or 6.
