List posts by category with image

Project Description:
I would like a solution to present a list of posts in a category with a title and an image for each post. This list will be displayed on a post and not on the sidebar. It is important that the solution does not slow the site down as some of the cateogries have many posts.I would like to be able to choose on which posts I want this to appear (i.e. it should not appear automatically on each post/page) and also the category number from which the posts will appear.
