mesothelioma has been reported in some individuals without any known exposure to asbestos. In rare cases, mesothelioma has
also been associated with irradiation, intrapleural thorium dioxide (Thorotrast), and inhalation of other fibrous silicates,
such as erionite.
According to some studies there is also a role of Symvian Virus 40 in causing mesothelioma.
It takes almost 20 to 50 yrs after exposure to asbestos and appearance of signs and symptoms in an individual.However when
symptoms develop they depend upon the mesothelial layer involved;
PLEURAL MESOTHELIOMA;
Mesothelioma that affects the pleura can cause these signs and symptoms:
* Chest wall pain
* Pleural effusion, or fluid surrounding the lung
* Shortness of breath
* Fatigue or anemia
* Wheezing, hoarseness, or cough
* Blood in the sputum (fluid) coughed up (hemoptysis)
In severe cases, the person may have many tumor masses. The individual may develop a pneumothorax, or collapse of the lung.
The disease may metastasize, or spread, to other parts of the body.
ABDOMINAL MESOTHELIOMA;
Tumors that affect the abdominal cavity often do not cause symptoms until they are at a late stage. Symptoms include:
* Abdominal pain
* Ascites, or an abnormal buildup of fluid in the abdomen
* A mass in the abdomen
* Problems with bowel function
* Weight loss
In severe cases of the disease, the following signs and symptoms may be present:
* Blood clots in the veins, which may cause thrombophlebitis
* Disseminated intravascular coagulation, a disorder causing severe bleeding in many body organs
* Jaundice, or yellowing of the eyes and skin
* Low blood sugar level
* Pleural effusion
* Pulmonary emboli, or blood clots in the arteries of the lungs
* Severe ascites
A mesothelioma does not usually spread to the bone, brain, or adrenal glands. Pleural tumors are usually found only on one
side of the lungs.
Diagnosis of mesothelioma is not so simple because the symptoms are similar to those of a number of other medical conditions
involving lungs.However the diagnosis begins with the brief clinical history,occupational history playing a vital role in
which exposure to asbestos is revealed.

The fuel tanks are carried in the wings. The landing gear consisting of the wheel, hydraulic shock strut designed to reduce the descent velocity at touchdown to zero but avoiding accelerations that would be uncomfortable to the passengers, or impose destructive high stresses on the airplane structure, the brakes and pitch propellers, which are rotated in the reverse direction to help cut the speed of the plane.
The fuselage houses the cargo and passenger compartments, and also acts as a pressure cabin allowing the atmospheric pressure at ground level to be maintained against the very low high altitude pressure.
The student will learn about the control surfaces consisting of the wings, vertical tail and horizontal tail surfaces. 75% of the wings are fixed and 25% consist of movable elements that allow the pilot to control the plane. The aileron allows the pilot to control the lateral and rolling motions of the plane. The landing flap gives the wings added lift to reduce the landing speed and permits fairly high angle of descent without gaining excessive speed. The flaps are also used for the same purpose during take off. Directional or yawing control is provided by a rudder fixed on the vertical tail surfaces and the pitch control provided by the horizontal tail surfaces.
The student will learn about the propulsion system consisting of the engine and the fuel. The fuel is the source of energy. The engine is the mechanical device by which the fuel’s energy is transformed into the propulsive force needed to drive the plane. Airplanes are propelled by accelerating a gas in the opposite direction as flight of the plane.
There are two types of airplane propulsion systems - those in which the rearward acceleration of gas is produced by the rotation of propellers driven by the plane’s engines and those in which the gas is accelerated rearward within the engines themselves – jet propulsion. For reliability planes normally have more than one engine – mainly four. The student will learn about the three types of internal combustion engines now in use – reciprocating engine for propellers, turbine engine for compressor which have no propellers and have the accelerated gas discharged directly from the engine, ram jet engine which consist of diffuser compressors and combustor burns air and discharges it through an exhaust nozzle, and rocket engine which does not use air for burning fuel and propulsion but carries its own oxidizer and is therefore independent of earth’s atmosphere.

Inflation in the US remained ‘subdued’ and interest rates are likely to remain low for an ‘extended period,’ Bernanke told the Economic Club of Washington, yesterday. It is now widely expected that the Federal Open Market Committee will probably maintain its outlook when the officials meet next week on December 15-16 after a report last week showing employers cut the fewest jobs in November since the recession began in December 2007.
The last week report had prompted some investors to raise bets the Fed would increase rates any time soon. The FOMC said last month that its benchmark interest rate, which has been close to zero for a year, would remain low as long as inflation is subdued and the unemployment rate fails to decline. Bernanke said yesterday those conditions haven’t changed.
“Right now we are still looking at the extended period given that conditions remain -- low rates of utilization, subdued inflation trends and stable long-term inflation expectations,” the Fed chief said in response to a question after a speech at the Economic Club of Washington. “That remains where we are.” The job market “remains weak” while “bank - dependent borrowers” such as households and small business are having difficulty obtaining loans, he said. Consumer spending is “unlikely to grow rapidly” as unemployment weighs on confidence, he said.
The consumer price index, minus food and energy, rose at a 1.7 per cent annual pace in October, up from 1.5 per cent the previous month. The core inflation rate rose at a 1.4 per cent pace in August, the lowest rate since February 2004. When the time comes, the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates to keep inflation under control, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said Monday, adding that that time could be far away.
Fed’s buying time
The trillions of dollars that governments are spending is “buying some time,” former Morgan Stanley chief Asian economist Andy Xie said.
Policy makers around the world cut interest rates and boosted government spending by more than $2 trillion as part of emergency steps to counter the global recession. The Japanese government yesterday unveiled $81 billion economic stimulus package amid signs the recovery and Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama’s popularity are waning. One of the risks is that governments may not have enough money to “cushion the pain during the coming economic restructuring,” the economist wrote. “The whole world is drinking poison to quench the thirst,” Xie said. “It may feel like relief now. The sickness will strike in 2012.
