This sounds like an interesting project. I have excellent math/scientific training (see my profile) and knowledge in designing efficient algorithms. I'm assuming the problem can be solved in a simliar way as "N queens". Otherwise (i.e. if your requirements mean the problem is not mathematically equivalent) I can't guarantee to do it in a day, I would then develop a modified algorithm (included in price).
