Description

I want an accounting database built in Excel. It is to be used for documenting stock trades (Buy, Sell, Sell Short, Cover Short Trades) as well as have some functionality for miscellaneous accounting items like interest, payments for fees, etc. Something like a general ledger. It should have buy and sell buttons in the spreadsheet so that when i document a trade, the ledger is updated and the holding shows up in the portfolio of holdings. It should also allow me to select which lot of shares I am selling or buying depending upon the date and price. It is basically a portfolio management tool that I can tweak and modify accordingly. I have a sample that i will send you can begin to work of that. In addition, I will continually re tweak the sheet as we progress.

The General Ledger is a snapshot of those transactions at one given moment in time. MsExcel is an excellent tool for presenting and working with snapshots (G/L). Unfortunately, it is not as good a tool when it comes to tracking transactions (Journalising), for this functionality you should really consider using MsAccess. For an application such as this, MsAccess and MsExcel work very well together and providing both the functionality AND flexibilty you require. Hello my name is Bill..
