I am very much experienced in drupal and joomla I have good experience to create joomla component module component and create drupal custome module . I have gone through your requirement in event management... But my suggestion to you to do the work in drupal because you mentioned that user will be able to edit their own added event only . In drupal you can integrate the security seystem ineach section ...Respect of security drupal is better the Joomla ... But Jooml is not bad ....
