Project Description:
I need an application that will go to a specific site(which i will tell you later once i have the right candidate) at a regular interval, pull the required data and store it in a local database( i am thinking MS Access).End user should have the option to specify how often he or she wants the program to capture the date (daily, weekly, bi-monthly etc).
One of the fields captured from the site is in date format (eg. January 20, 2004). On the next iteration, when the application goes out and captures this field again, it should then be able to calculate the number of days by which this field has changed.
So for example, on the first iteration the date field was: January 10,2004 and on the second iteration the date field was January 20, 2004, it should come out and show that the date has progressed by 10 days in such a given time.
I am still trying to figure out how long should the data be retained for.
However i would like to be able to chose and pick the date to compare the most recent given data to the one previously collected(one day ago, 15 days ago, or a month).
I want the results to be displayed in a form of excel spreadsheet.

The project that you describe can be built with a simple back end/input page which will allow you to change the details of how the application works at your leisure, as well as an output page, which can be converted to Excel format and output directly onto your website as an Excel spreadsheet, or simply shown in tables to "look" like an excel spreadsheet. I may be able to offer advice in the handling and storage of your data. It sounds as if MS Access would be the best database format to use for this application. less

I understand what you need.You want your website to go out on the internet on a daily basis and collect some information, then provide that information to the end user with the ability to compare todays info with info from a historical date the user provides. You can save that info for as long as you like and it will not affect your sites performance. That won't be a problem to do at the price bid. But let's add to the functionality. Let's email registered users the info they want at the interval they want (daily,weekly,monthly) so they won't have to remember to check back. Let me know. less

The core of this application lies in bringing data from the web which can be certainly done with the help of Visual Basic. Now the thing is that you want the further analysis of the data for your understanding. If the datasize is not very high and the processing is low then you can certainly choose access for the back end. This type of work has already been done by us in the form of an application which downloads the pages which has been marked by the user as downloadable.
