Project Description:

We need to be able to have a "Master Product" that can be sold as separate, in some cases radically different sub-products -- i.e. different manufacturers, quantities, part numbers, etc.

Specifically, we sell enterprise hard drives, so here's a direct example of what we need to do:

The original manufacturer -- Seagate -- makes a hard drive, Model ST373307LC, Part 9V2006. However, they make this specific drive for Dell, HP, IBM, Sun, and any number of other companies. Each of these companies gets their own distinct label(s) and firmware revision(s), even though the drive itself is identical. On top of this, Dell, for instance, has this very drive listed under three (3) different proprietary part numbers (K4401, Y2611, and 0R512, for those interested). Likewise with HP, Sun and others. So, we have ONE drive that we can/do sell as Dell K3401, Dell 0R512, Dell Y2611, Sun X5264A, Sun 540-5937, HP BD07285A25, and perhaps some others as well as the original Seagate ST373307LC.

As it currently stands, each individual P/N is treated as an individual inventory item, where we really need to have the MASTER (ST373307LC) as a whole inventory number that gets changed automatically when any of those SUB parts are sold or new inventory arrives.

We have looked into some OSC contribs, specifically QTPro "Quantity Tracking Professional" but we're not fluent enough to know if this can be adapted to our requirements. Our site is: www.ITLiquid8.com if that helps.
