we want to use intersystems cache database as a back end for our website to do the following:1.record look up that will enable authorized users through their browsers to look up hospital and dr information in our database. there are approximately 2 million records, each having the same basic 10 fields.users will be able to print their results. queries will be pre defined.
2.another web based app that will deal with claims data records. claim records will all be the same, having 30 fields. import of the records will be by dbf file. not all fields will be full at the beginning of the claim process. records will be exported to other users who will populate the missing field data and send back to us. some fields within a record will autocalulate (simple algebra only) when the relevant fields have data inserted in them. several permission levels required to use, view etc. other operations will include reports, invoices and documents

while cache is the preferred database to be used, we may consider mysql if it could provide the same ease of use and simple user interface.

A substantial project. I am pleased to see your adjusted budget - mine would have to approach your top end of $2500 for a project like this. You need validated secure login; the report query sounds straight-forward; the second app for claims data records will take the bulk of work as it includes 'reports, invoices and documents' as yet undetermined. As for choice of database, I work with MySQL, and have to wonder about your concern over 'ease of use and simple user interface.' This has not much to do with the database per se (after all it is merely a receptacle) but with how a programmer presents the front-end to it. Perhaps you've had a bad experience.
