Project Description:

Game style NPC AI system and nav mesh set-up tools for a Machinima project using C# in Unity3D.

See attached document for details.

NDA will be required for further information exchange.

Given I would provide a fully commented C# FPS template for Unity3D that includes simple NPC AI, how long do you think it would take you to get up to speed with Unity3D so you are truly productive and able to have the new AI system functioning in the provided template?

N.B. You would only need the indie version of the Unity engine to do this AI work and all the docs and tutorials for Unity are freely viewable/downloadble from the Unity website to evaluate without needing to purchase a license.

Don't Bid Outrageous !

    HI Aza

    Thank you for your response.

The time frame for completing this AI system project is ideally 3 months from the commencement date at the most. The AI required is relatively simple i.e.: A* pathfinding, ray casting for vision, hearing via comparison of sound emitter's range versus an AI's hearing range, touch via collisions with AI getting the vector of what collided with it. HFSM control logic/decision making from the pathfinding and sensory inputs. The FPS template you will have to integrate the AI into is the example FPS template that comes with Unity that you have worked with previously in your demos -except it has been converted into C# and is fully commented appropriately. For performance optimisation you might need to time-slice the A* and will probably need scene management scheme or LOD AI update frequency based on distance from the player.
Use of open source AI libraries to assist you/speed development may be acceptable -take a look at Angry ant's AI tools for Unity for example "Path" see angryant.com -though I would prefer a simple if then else or case statement type FSM to using decision trees for the actual controll logic. If you do a good job of this AI system, continuing work on further customisations and updates to this game framework will be offered to you.

Feel free to discuss this further via this message board or whatever means of communication are allowed by GAF's rules.

    Best Regards,
    PB.

It's hard to know just exactly how complex the NPC AI script integration would be without knowing the complexity of the AI.
So I suppose you are right in saying it's somewhere between $1500 & $3000.
Obviously this affects the timeline of the project also..
perhaps we should discuss it further before locking in on figures and dates

currently I have a license for Unity3D Indie
