    Very challenging project from start, involving detection of an adjustable threshold point and switch to backup battery.The challenge was that both batteries had the same voltage = 3 volts (2xAA and CR2032). The approach taken by the engineer is to set the threshold for switching at 1.6 volts (0.8V*2)Then use an ideal Oring diode made from mosfets to prevent the flow back on the dead battery (regular diode has high drop).They are chips like that made by only 3 companies Maxim outrageous expensive.Intersil no adjustable threshold and just 32mA maximum output.Linear Technology, expensive also.I am very pleased with the engineer job as just in the first half hour he comes up with the concept and working schematic.Due to my customer requests, we had to go many times back and forth to made changes as requested, but all the changes were just in adjusting the values of the original schematic.I highly recommend this engineer for any analog job (my project was analog).

    We have a small system of boards with a PIC 18F46J50. They go into a paintball gun with the following inputs and outputs:INTrigger microswitch to determine when to fireBeam sensor (sender/receiver) to determine if a paintball is loadedTwo pressure transducers for the measurement of pressure (around 50psi-200psi pressures)9V battery powerUSB for firmware updatesFlash memory chip for storage of graphics and audio3 tacswitches, one for power on/off, two for added functions.OUTColour OLED display (128x36px)Solenoid valve (full power from 9V battery for a short pulse around 10ms)LED indicator (3 colour LED)Speaker for tonesWe engaged another freelancer for the job. He has been unable to complete the work because of time commitments. We have a very clear idea of the operational requirements, because we have older models that do the same thing. We have schematics for the older models, and I am in the process of getting the schematics for the newer model.We need to evaluate the current hardware design, of which we have samples. It almost works, but has a couple of bugs in the power supply and pressure measurement systems.If the current hardware is usable, we would like to write software in C to run the system (in its most basic form):1. A section for running the gun - when the trigger is pulled, ensure that a ball is loaded. When a shot is taken, the software should check that the system works properly (the beam sensor can see characteristic movements).2. A section for delivering output for the user on the OLED screen, including pressure measurements, sensor status, rate of fire.3. A section for user programming. Parameters should be accessible via a menu system to allow changing of common parameters.4. Adding all the special things, USB bootloading, bootup screens, tones, things like that.
