In Turkey we have a saying that goes: "One Language One Person, Two Languages Two Persons". Neither very exciting nor very profound at first sight, but used by most of the parents who have understood the importance of learning foreign languages - the more languages you learn the more people you can get in contact with. \nI grew up in Germany and I consider German as my mother tongue.
