How I Identify Bogus Buyers I Check Rankings (the little stars you see next to their nick).Genuine buyers quickly get their stars. A few low rankings - and I don"t touch that buyer. Not saying genuine buyers only get good rankings...but its a thumb rule that has helped me.I Count the No. of Projects Floated and AwardedIf I see that many projects have been created, none awarded, or no rankings despite many closed projects, then I have just identified a bogus buyer.I ask for Escrow - in my very first post. Bogus buyers will not respond at all and save me a lot wasted time.I Insist on Some Payment Upfront - or at the very least, an escrow. I INSIST, or I don"t work. I dont mind accepting lesser money for my services, but I want to be paid.I am Wary of Urgent Projects - because they get the work done immediately, and cancel the project, after you send deliverables. Leaving me high and dry. Not everyone is like that, but you need to be careful.Buyers who Haggle are not Bogus. They are going to pay up ultimately...and since it is money out of their own pocket, they will haggle. If They are Too Good to be True, they ARE. If they offer incredibly good prices - and it looks like you are viewing a lottery ticket - well, buddy, its my friend the Bogus Buyer. If something is too good to be true it is - generally - not true. I know this buyer who keeps posting under different names (its a scanning project). I even got his agreement whetted by a lawyer - complete rip-off. I Get PersonalI ask for their full names, URLs, email IDs, names, cities, addresses, and company details. I know its against GAF rules...but if they hesitate to share their details, then their intentions are not correct.I am Mighty Suspicious and USE my Instincts One wiggle of my radar, and I bolt out of the project. I don"t mind earning less money, but I hate to be cheated. And finally, even after all these precautions, if I am cheated I will do what Adam did - float a project called XYZ IS A RIP OFF!, create a stink, send the collection agencies after them, do what it takes to get my hard-earned money back!Any other tips I seem to have missed?
