At first, this seemed like a good hire. He seemed to do the job well without a lot of time consuming supervision. However we recently discovered he had been making massive errors for more than the entire past month, and he didn't even seem to be aware of what was going on when we questioned him. He finally responded saying he was sorry and would give us credit back, and work for free for part of the next month. Then, he disappeared completely, obviously not wanting to own up to his mistakes and make things right. It has been over 2 weeks and no word.
