Contest Brief

Hi,

I'm a designing a website and need a logo that represents a grain and vegetable oil exchange brokerage. They often sell tanker shipments of these type foods as commodities. So it should be a corporate refined logo. Think along the lines of Exxon, Microsoft, or Post in that its minimal in color and easily identifiable. I've attached a roughly compiled page of ideas I had. You can refine any of these or make something different. It just needs to look clean. I'm not looking for ornate, busy, charming, cute, photorealistic, or highly detailed.

No need to waste your time mocking it up in 3D on business cards with camera blur and what not. I will only consider the 2D version. Please no clip-art.
I will be checking for originality with tineye.com

Winner will be determined by best overall design concept. Keep in mind this will be for an international corporation so even though the cash award is miniscule, this will be a very good portfolio piece.

Good Luck.

I'm seeing some very nice work. Thank you. Surprised no one has taken a stab at the geography variation. Keep up the good work. Contest is almost half way over.

The company name is "Patagonia Americas". So far all of these designs are eligible. For direction: Corporate designs and logos are a special class. For those of you who haven't been to art school, a good logo is one that looks just as good in black and white as it does in full color, it looks good on a business card and a billboard. It embodies the essence of the business model, is easily identifiable and technically easy to reproduce. I remember my art instructor saying that if the newspaper can't print it, then its not a good design (remember, newspapers are low resolution and black and white); that's because when I went to art school there was no internet...but the principle is the same regardless. A good design does not have to be complicated with tons of color. Simplicity and refinement is the key. There is a famous quote - "Less is More". That should be the all encompassing theme behind any good company logo.

Company name is optional. Although it would be nice to see how you would balance the composition and fonts you would use. nice job georgeecstazy.

Colors are also up for grabs. I originally was trying to use organic colors matching the products, but its not as important as an overall design concept. Even a pencil sketch has the potential of winning provided the concept is superior. If you do incorporate text in the design make sure its "Patagonia Americas". Text can be all caps, all lowers, first letter caps, serif, san serif, whatever...just not comic sans or something cryptic, calligraphic, or artsy. Keep it very corporate.

What about the name of the company? Does it have to be included, what is your company's name?
