Contest Brief

Hello,
I'm after an illustration/caricature/cartoon of an Austin Healey 100 speeding down the Longford Flying Mile in 1954. If you know what a Big Healey is and have heard of the Longford Grand Prix in Tasmania then you are the illustrator for me. I have an online store selling car magazines - see www.oldcarmags.com and I need an appropriate image that I can use for promotional purposes - so I want to own the image outright. The style I'm looking for is a pucker period look that would suit a business seeking to capture a sense of classic english sports cars being driven in period wear by hairy chested, bounders and cads with more money than sense - in other words a bit tongue in cheek, that captures the movement of the vehicle but more as an illustration than a straight reproduction of the image - in other words use it as your imagination. The sort of imagery I'm keen on are the type of image that is on the British Racing Drivers Club logo as well as Guy Allen's work - if you search up Felix Petrol you'll get the idea. If you put a number plate on it the number should be DZ 3003. Anyhow, attached is the image that I'm keen to see recreated. This logo will need to work across website, twitter, Facebook and printed collateral. If you have any questions, just ask.
Kind regards,
Becher

Hello, is the style in the covers of Monogram Hot Rod the kind of style you'd like? It's more detailed and realistic than Felix Petrol, but still got the 50s/60s feeling. Or perhaps you'd prefer a more simplified and cartoony version as Felix Petrol?

Dear Oscar, Design is starting to look really strong - great work. In terms of feedback, the car sits a bit high from the wheels and the drive is a tad too high in his seat. I'd prefer a blue car (but your the designer not me) and the background trees don't look that English. Great effort. Becher

Hello Javier, I've tried to give an idea of the cartoon style I'm interested in by pointing to Felix Petrol and also the British Racing Drivers Club logo - If you think of 1950's and 1960's style of illustrations that used to be in car magazines and advertisements from that time, you should be able to get a feel for what I am after. Regards, Becher

I would like to prepare an illustration for your competition but I need to be certain that I understood your instructions. Can you please confirm or correct my recapitulation of your instructions:
You are looking for an illustration in Guy Allen's stile of an an Austin Healey 100, possibly with a number plate that should be DZ 3003. The driver should be a hairy chested bounder wearing 1954 period clothes. I have some difficulties with understanding of what “a pucker period look” is.
    Thanks, Vera

Dear Vera, a pucker period look means it is the best of British - evoking everything that is english from the 1950's. Regards, Becher
