NASA Challenge: Develop 3D Models for Robonaut Simulation-Dumbell Stand

  • Status: Closed
  • Prize: $100
  • Entries Received: 25
  • Winner: tarun3693

Contest Brief

We (NASA) need to develop a number of high resolution 3D models to be used for Robonaut simulations. These 3D models are to be developed based on photographs of real items (see attached files). These simulated objects would be used for various grasp and manipulator testing.

This particular challenge is to build a 3D model of a dumbell stand. This item will be used by the Robonaut team in the development of vision and grasping controls to identify, localize, and grasp a 20 lb dumbell. Note that some images are show with the dumbell and others without it. The model should be built without the dumbell.

There is a scale in the attached imagery is in inches. All final model submissions must be delivered in on of the following formats: .prt (Solidworks, ProE); .step or .stp; .iges; .stl; .dae. NOTE: Freelancer submissions will need to be image file views of your model. If you win the contest, you will then send/transfer the model files to NASA via email, dropbox, etc.

All entries will be judged on the accuracy, quality, and fidelity (detail) of the model produced. Note that where highly similar top submissions are produced, the submission entered first will win.

Employer Feedback

“Tarun3693 did an great job of creating a detailed 3D model of a dumbell stand for use in our NASA Robonaut simulation. This was a contest and this was the winning submission.”

ts very sad today. I seen this NTL contest by yesterday morning. And i completed the model by today morning. When i uploaded, its taking 20 minutes to upload 3 images. At last when i clicked submit button, the page shows 'web page is not available '. Can some one please help me to solve this issue and is there any way to post my entry again? Please reply me.

Quick question for the community. Do you prefer submissions for this kind of a contest to be sealed or unsealed?

Sealed means submissions are not visible to other freelancers (only the contest owner). The other question is more a question of mass rather than weight (but I'm pretty sure you know that given the rest of your posts). :)

And the isyfy profile: "I hold a Bachelors of Science. My major
is: Science, Mathematics and Technology" Sounds like you are one smart newbie.

Hi NASA, Will you be doing simulation tests on the 3D module, FEA?

The 3D models will be used for simulation of identification and grasping of objects, but not FEA. Great question. Thanks!

FYI... We did rerate the first 5 entries based on a more detailed examination of the submitted models. All look really great, but we did find minor issues with each that we noted in the comments. Reserving our 5 stars for no issues.

Hello, We are really interested in your project and we would like to take part in this contest, but the software in which we will model the product will be Autodesk 3ds max and the final files that I will be delivering will be .obj, .fbx, max file and its render images.. Please comment below, if these files will be suitable for you.
