NASA Challenge: Develop 3D Models for Robonaut Simulation-RFID Scanner
- Status: Closed
- Prize: $75
- Entries Received: 12
- Winner: BlackRiddles
Contest Brief
We (NASA) need to develop a number of high resolution 3D models to be used for Robonaut simulations. These 3D models are to be developed based on photographs of real items (see attached files). These simulated objects would be used for various grasp and manipulator testing.
This particular challenge is to build a 3D model of an RFID Scanner. A version of this item is used by astronauts on space station to both locate and keep an inventory of RFID-tagged items. This scanner can also be used by R2 to perform the same task when necessary.
Note that the bottom view image includes a white block used to hold the scanner in position for photographing. This white block should be ignored and not included in the model.
There is a scale in the attached imagery is in inches. All final model submissions must be delivered in on of the following formats: .prt (Solidworks, ProE); .step or .stp; .iges; .stl; .dae. NOTE: Freelancer submissions will need to be image file views of your model. If you win the contest, you will then send/transfer the model files to NASA via email, dropbox, etc.
All entries will be judged on the accuracy, quality, and fidelity (detail) of the model produced. Note that where highly similar top submissions are produced, the submission entered first will win.

Employer Feedback
“BlackRiddles did an great job of creating a detailed 3D model of an RFID Scanner for use in our NASA Robonaut simulation. This was a contest and his design was selected as the best.”
