NASA Contest: Create an Infographic that Celebrates the Scientific and Engineering Accomplishments of 20 Continuous Years of Human Presence on the International Space Station

The goal of this challenge is to create an infographic to be used by the International Space Station (ISS) Program. The infographic should convey the following:

- The space station is celebrating 20 years of continuous human presence aboard the orbiting laboratory.
- The space station is a unique scientific platform where astronauts conduct experiments across multiple disciplines of research, including Earth and space science, biology, human physiology, physical sciences and technology demonstrations that could not be done anywhere else in the world.
- The space station is a major feat of engineering that has pushed the boundaries of human innovation and problem solving.
- The space station is the only place we can currently conduct long-duration research on how living in microgravity affects the human body, and test technologies that will take us farther into deep space, including the Moon and Mars.

We will use the graphic in multiple ways at NASA, across digital and print media. We’re looking for creative, unique, and easy-to-understand takes on the data and how to convey and communicate the impact of humans living continuously in space for 20 years, and the scientific and engineering accomplishments that have been made possible by that feat.

Here are the links to the data to use to create the Infographic data:
- https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/research/utilization-statistics

Here are other resources to help you learn about the space station, but that are not required to be included as data sets in the infographic.
- Science at 17,500 mph [video] https://youtu.be/Tu5BgjZRYKA
- Orbiting Laboratory [video] https://youtu.be/yqHiShYGkZQ
- ISS Research & Technology Overview: http://www.nasa.gov/iss-science
- ISS Research Media Resources: https://go.nasa.gov/34LXaFq

Graphic Requirements:
- Source File Requirements: All original vector source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape and saved as layered AI or EPS files.
- Only use Helvetica font. DO NOT include any font files in your submission or source files.
- All text in the graphic should be converted to outlines.
- Preview/entry image requirements: Please create your infographic preview image with minimum dimensions 1024x1024 JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi.
- The only NASA logo that can be used is one of the provided ISS20 logos. The NASA insignia or other NASA logos cannot be used as any part of the submission. In your submission, provide a version with and without the ISS20 logo.

Other Preferences:
- Color palette is open, but limited to 6 colors.

Stock Photography Requirements:
- Stock photography is not allowed in this contest. All submitted elements must be designed solely by you.

Judging Criteria:
- Creativity: Did your submission highlight a creative/unique piece of data? Did your submission creatively convey space station data?
- Requirements: Does your submission meet the requirements as stated within the challenge?
- Quality: Does your submission look fresh, professional, and clean?

Please note that NASA employees/contractors are not eligible for this contest.

Hi. I drew the entire station because I think this is very important for presenting data in infographics. I'm very sorry, but I don't have time to submit my work, because of the current problems in the world with coronaviruses. Would it be great if You could extend the contest for a few days , if possible?

I would make a high- quality infographic.

Hi Soufian. Regarding dimensions, there is no set size the infographic should be. But it should fall into the typical sizes for infographics that are used in digital media online.

Hi Van. If I understand your question correctly, then yes, the infographic needs to be one single design and not created on multiple boards.

Hello Pilar. Thank you for your submission! The infographic can use either realistic or cartoon-like graphic elements. And the orientation can be either vertical or horizontal, it's up to you. Whichever orientation best fits all the information.

Hi all! Thank you to those who have already submitted designs. For further clarification, we are looking an infographic design that incorporates graphics / visual elements to showcase the data points of the International Space Station instead of just using blocks of text. Also, please make sure all content is legible and large enough to read. Thank you!
