Overview of the NASA System Architecture Task The generating of system architecture for a product or system is a widely understood and used process to describe all the elements that make up the complete product or system. Even though this is a widely used process system design can often be looked at from different perspectives with multiple ways to decompose or breakdown any given system. We are asking for your help in exploring the multiple ways to approach creating a decomposed architecture of a complex system. Help us by providing system architecture options for a robotic attachment mechanism (robotic arm) attached to a free flying robot that will fly aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
A draft of the full description of the task required is provided, on the Freelancer.com site, for your reference so you can understand what will be required if your registration is selected.
Registration is open to all Freelancer members from but only 30 people will be selected to complete the task. See below for more information about the Task.
Task-based Effort
• We will be providing a Systems Description document to complete the effort. This should be all you need to complete the task. A draft is being provided.
•After the registration phase ends, those that are selected to complete the task will be provided the final systems description document.
Task Payment
•A $10 payment will be provided to each individual that is selected from the Registration Survey.
•Another $100 in payment will be provided to each individual selected from the registration phase that completes all deliverables of the task.
Deliverables
•A graphical depiction of the decomposed structure with any interdependencies noted. Examples are provided.
•A written description demonstrating completeness of the decomposition – Please note any flow down of requirements from one element to another.
•A written description of the decision process on why the decomposed structure was chosen.
•A written description for each decomposed element of the system stating the knowledge and skills required to design and build that element with a mapping to the Freelancer skill category(s) that it could be posted under (https://www.freelancer.com/job).
•A completed Final Survey.
Contributing to Research on Freelancer
•Participating in this effort involves participating in a research project. Upon completing the registration form you agree to allow the investigator to use the data collected from your participation in this study.
•If you choose to participate, you will be required to complete two surveys: the registration survey and a final survey along with your deliverables to get paid for the task.
• You may discontinue your participation at any time, but will not get paid unless you complete all the deliverables (including the surveys).
Data management & privacy
•The data collected, including survey responses, analysis of submissions, and communications on the Freelancer for the task, will be used for research purposes.
•Only the immediate project team at Freelancer and researchers at NASA will see your individual data consistent with Freelancer Terms and Privacy Policies. Data will only be shared with Research Organizations in an anonymous form in which individuals cannot be identified.
You will need to complete the contest on Freelancer.com and also the survey to be eligible to be selected.

@ektfreelancer nasacoeci is NASA's Center of Excellence for Collaboration (CoECI) and is an organization within CoECI. Yes, we are trying to best understand how crowdsourcing can provide a useful role in NASA's mission. We've tried to be pretty straight forward with that information from the start of our original pilot project using Freelancer. Hope this helps clarify. Thanks!

@nasacoeci . In order to rationally anticipate success of the arm device and lacking any specifications for the flyer, I created my own autonomous fliers. I developed the configuration for several different models each toward specific criteria, maximum hover time, ability to carry a weightload of the arm extension and three cameras 170 degree pivoting platform able to run video carry the additional wiring and the brain. Programming enabled via the python for robotics and open pilot source codes modified and tested at github. Models are made of carbon, carbon fiber, glass fiber or stainless steel materials.up to 6 motors provide for the propulsion and blank assignable values for easy navigational and protocol assignation for individual tasks.

I have been able to (given an earths gravity environment) been able to sustain at hover for 45 minutes with a thrust to weight ratio of 3.3 and a max thrust of 8520 grams that is while supporting twin arm extensions with the extra payload of three cameras one of which sits on a 170 degree pivoting platform one provides hd stills the other two are capable of both photography or video

We wanted to provide a little more background on how we selected the 30 winners. As noted we had two requirements - 1) Complete a survey 2) Complete the contest submission by submitting your favorite space image. Our primary interest was in the survey data. The secondary image submission was required in order to have the contest on freelancer.com and have a path to complete payments for the 30 selected. We were looking for a diversity of backgrounds in the survey data to complete the selection. With that as a goal, we used the data to randomly select the 30 people out of the entire set with a bias towards ensuring we have a diverse set of people. We were looking for a diverse set of 30 people in gender, employment organizational size, and experience. We had a great pool of surveys to choose from. So if you were not selected please do not consider that a negative. With such a large response and the fact we where only selecting 30 people many people were not selected.

The current rounds of spam email make the contest no longer fun. Congratulation to the winner and the other runners up, who were supposed to be all equal winners of 30 entries chosen to proceed to the next stage, but the count shows that it is currently less than this. A week was not enough?
A simple enough contest, a survey and picture entry. Not having their own original photo (and was not a requirement), most people find an image on the internet and post that.
What is puzzles me is the judging criteria. Every contest has a judging criteria, and not being original photos, I assume that its the creativity of the thought behind the photo entry by the contestant along with the survey responses? Some photos selected by the contest holder for progression, don't have any logic for the selection when compared to other entries that describes the thought process.
Why have the requirement for a photo if the survey response is the only key criteria ?

Sorry, but I have some questions about this contest:
1. NASA specified that would select 30 people for complete the task. Not happened.
2. For the entry, complete one survey and send a random space image. I like that, but send a random space image can prove robotic skill, 3D engineering design or any idea about the project? (Maybe I have no idea about robotic arm, but was better be tested!)
3. In text was writed the recommended skills: "Engineering, Industrial Design, Project Management, Robotics, Software Architecture". The winner have another profile. So, the NASA wanted a "concept" of robotic arm? Maybe...
4. I don't saw a field to upload a project 3D about the robotic arm, but this can be my fail, cause I'm new in Freelancer. Now I'll need to throw away my new robotic arm! I'm kidding!
Anyway, I wish congratulations to Dirak, because I liked about your projects!
And for us poor mortals, wait for more opportunity! Opportunity?? Hum! Interesting!- 7 years ago

I don't get it. Weird competition. you ask for "system architecture options for a robotic attachment mechanism (robotic arm) attached to a free flying robot" but "To complete the contest - Please upload an image of your favourite space image." Can you explain your craziness. You ignore entries with actual ideas, and choose winners with only internet copied irrelevant images.
