Contest Brief
We need someone who can connect a report writer to our databases. Reports come from 5 tables some Oracle and some SQL. We would like to use NaviCat, but you may have something else as inexpensive.

Sorry to say this. Before entering this contest I thought it would be worthwhile. But now I don't see this contest going anywhere. Looks like it is one of those 'waste of time' bogus projects without a proper vision. :(

Hi, I would like to clarify a few things about SSRS. SSRS can connect to databases like SQL Server, Oracle. The idea is to create datasources ( Similar to creating connection object in ADO.NET, by supplying the connection string). The primary source of data for the report is the DATASET. The dataset requires a valid DATASOURCE to be created first. We can create a single datasource referring to SQL Server and another datasource referring to Oracle. We can then create appropriate datasets based upon certain DB(SQL or Oracle)We can create a report which shows the data from different databases. The Tablix control (Table+Matrix) in SSRS can however refer to one dataset only. But we can have multiple Tablix controls on a single report. These can show data from both databases.

Qlik is an interesting approach and i like their graphic representations. Can the reports come from two databases and can we use the connections to make reports at will?

Is there enough stored procedures and queries placed in the both servers those are enough to generate the reports required?

SQL Server. We will need to make our own ad hoc reports once the report writer is connected to the appropriate tables.

We can help you creating a platform for Ad-hoc reporting purposes using either Oracle BI/Hyperion Interactive Reporting/Cognos/Qlikview/Tableau. We can also help you with interactive dashboards using any of the above tools.
