Contest Brief

Hello,

Looking for an illustration for a new series of beer packaging. The illustration needs to be minimal, with a lot of personality, and evoke craftsmanship, nature, with a touch of innocence and magic, like a fairytale.

The style we are looking to emulate is like the two attached images. A background in (sort of) inverted colors (colored background with white graphics / details), with a texture of hand drawing strokes, and a simple main character in a darker color.

In our case, we need the following:
- an amber colored background with subtle gradients (a stock one can be used, such as one of these: [login to view URL] / [login to view URL] / [login to view URL] / [login to view URL])
- white graphics that show a field of chamomile and wild thyme (google them to see the form / shapes), in white, with some detail like in the attached pictures, and you could also add other elements, like clouds, the sun etc. Thinking that it would look best if they are blending with the background and have low contrast (which is what you can see in the example files), with the white graphics creating a layer over the background, and together providing a canvas for the label. So covering all the area with dense white graphics, would be ideal.
- a main character of a beekeeper, from the shoulder and up, showing the typical hat and, perhaps, holding a beehive (e.g. kind of like this: [login to view URL]), in a simple / minimal form, in a dark color (black, dark gray etc) that makes him pop against the background. Again, very minimal with as little detail as possible (just enough for someone to figure out it's a beekeeper). So it could just be a solid color with very basic details.

This is all about creating a minimal fairytale-like ambiance, with the right balance. No need to reinvent the wheel here, just a monochromatic background with tasteful and dense white graphics, and a super minimal beekeeper in there.

Feel free to submit just parts at a time, so that I can guide you through it, without having to make the whole label.

Shape should be a wide rectangular, around 1000 x 350px (W x H)

I thought I wanted an illustration with photos. You need a vector illustration.

I wanted to thank everyone for a wonderful contest. I hadn't run a contest since many years ago, and this has definitely be one of the best I've ever had. So many wonderful and talented participants. Unfortunately, as is the case with the nature of contests, there can be only one winner. I wish I could award many more. I have now received entries from 4-5 different contestants that are very close to the vision of this label, so I wanted to let everyone know and not waste much time. I will be receiving improvements, but will not be actively reviewing any other entries that are far from the goal, to save everyone's time. Thank you again!

Also, no need to show me a complete graphic, you can show me parts and guide you through them.

    We just need three things:
    - Choose an interesting background from the links provided (if you want to keep it easy), with a cool texture or some gradient on it (but keep it monochromatic, nothing too busy)
    - Put white graphics (flowers, clouds, sun mainly, no trees though), like a field, make it dense with graphics, but not much contrast between them and the background
    - A very minimal figure of a beekeeper (black would probably work best for maximum contrast), not much detail.

Let me know if you have any questions, thanks again.

Thanks everyone for your entries so far. A couple of things to help with the process:
    - The contest is now sealed, so feel free to get as creative as you want to.
    - We are looking for simplicity that can stand against the "shelf test", that is for the label to stand out on the shelf. When we have too much "noise" on the label, it is not really visible from a distance...
