Contest Brief

Project Description:

I am an author creating a short-form Christian video series called “Jesus and the Outsiders.” I am looking for someone to create ONE prototype video (30–45 seconds) so I can determine whether to move forward with a larger series.

This is a faith-based, emotionally moving, cinematic devotional, not a marketing advertisement.

The tone should feel:

Warm
Emotional
Cinematic
Reverent
Slow and beautiful (not fast-paced social media style)
More like a movie moment or devotional reflection than an advertisement
THE STORY

This first prototype will be based on The Woman at the Well (John 4) and focus on this emotional truth:

Jesus moves toward ashamed people.

The goal is emotional storytelling with a clear gospel message, not merely retelling the Bible story.

VIDEO STRUCTURE (30–45 SECONDS)
Scene 1 — Isolation (0–10 seconds)

A Samaritan woman walks alone toward the well in the heat of the day. Empty surroundings. She clearly seems isolated or avoided.

The emotional feeling:

loneliness, shame, distance

Suggested text overlay:

“She came when no one else would be there.”

Audio / Sound Design:

soft desert wind
distant village sounds (subtle, indistinct)
footsteps in dust
clay water jar sounds
soft emotional piano beginning quietly

Please do not include obvious gossip dialogue. The loneliness should be felt emotionally through visuals and atmosphere.

Scene 2 — Jesus Waiting (10–20 seconds)

Jesus sits quietly at the well. Calm, compassionate presence. No condemnation. A sense that He intentionally came for her.

The emotional feeling:

unexpected grace

Suggested text overlay:

“But Jesus was already waiting.”

Audio / Sound Design:

music becomes warmer
gentle breeze
subtle birds/environment
quiet stillness

The moment should feel peaceful and safe.

Scene 3 — Seen and Known (20–32 seconds)

A gentle interaction between Jesus and the woman. Emotional facial expressions matter here. Compassion instead of shame. She feels seen rather than judged.

The emotional feeling:

He knows her story… and stays anyway

Suggested text overlay:

“He knew her story… and stayed.”

Audio / Sound Design:

emotional piano or soft strings begin to lift
subtle water/well ambience
reverent pacing

No spoken dialogue is necessary unless done exceptionally well.

Scene 4 — Hope + Gospel Landing (32–45 seconds)

The woman leaves changed. Hope replaces shame.

The emotional feeling:

grace is bigger than shame

Suggested text overlays:

“Jesus moves toward ashamed people.”

Final gospel line:

“At the cross, Jesus carried our shame so we could come near.”

IMPORTANT STYLE REQUIREMENTS

Please DO NOT make this feel like:

a marketing advertisement
stock footage slideshow
flashy TikTok editing
fast cuts or hyper editing
overly dramatic Hollywood trailer style

Instead, I want:

soft golden sunlight
warm cinematic color grading
slow movement or subtle slow motion
emotional facial expressions
quiet reverent pacing
contemplative, devotional atmosphere

Think:

beautiful, emotional, cinematic biblical storytelling

The viewer should feel:

“Jesus moved toward her… maybe He would move toward me too.”

MUSIC & AUDIO (VERY IMPORTANT)

Sound design is extremely important for this project.

Please include:

soft cinematic background music
subtle environmental sounds
emotional pacing through sound and silence

Music style:

soft piano
gentle cinematic strings
hopeful but reverent
emotional without manipulation

Please avoid:

loud cinematic trailer music
cheesy Christian background music
modern pop sounds
overdramatic emotional manipulation

The audio should feel:

quiet, beautiful, reverent, emotionally moving

Please provide:

One finished 30–45 second prototype video
Background music included
Sound design included (ambient sounds)
Text overlays included
Vertical format (9:16) for Shorts / Reels / social media
High quality export
Source files if possible

This is a paid prototype project only, but if successful I may hire for an entire 10-video devotional series called:

“Jesus and the Outsiders”

      In answer to the question: for this prototype, please create vertical format only (9:16) optimized for YouTube Shorts, Facebook/Instagram Reels, and Substack video.

      If the prototype works well, I may later request a horizontal version (16:9) for YouTube and website use, but for now vertical only is fine.

      For this prototype, I only need ONE video in vertical format (9:16) for Shorts/Reels/Substack.

      No horizontal (16:9) version is needed right now.

      If the prototype turns out well, I may later request a 16:9 cinematic version, but for this first test please create vertical only.
