There is a myth in my country that the camera captures the true essence of a person's soul. It is an old Akan superstition, although it turns out that many other primitive cultures held the same belief for a long time. Of course, today, people mostly dismiss the myth. But I think my ancestors were on to something. Perhaps, the camera does not capture the soul...not in the way we define a soul anyway. But a camera, in a craftsman's hand, does capture a certain essence; traps a moment in time for all eternity. A camera, in the hands of a master, can reveal who we truly are, and what we really hope to be.
