Concept art for a virtual pet game: kitten and puppy

  • Status: Closed
  • Prize: $240

Contest Brief

Design concept art for kitten and puppy characters for a virtual pet game. The characters can be anywhere between cartoonish and realistic, but they must be super cute and appealing to children. We are looking for quadruped designs (i.e. on all four paws) as opposed to bipedal human/animal hybrid type characters. Keep in mind, the concept will be made into a 3D character for a game, so it must be something that will look good in medium to low poly model. We also do not want to use transparency, so no thin parts sticking out (e.g. make whiskers be part of the face, not sticking out separately). Tails and ears can stick out of course.

We are looking for original designs, free of copyright. The final entry must contain several views of both characters and can be in png or jpg format.

We'll need more art design in the future, so follow on work is very likely for top contestants.

I'm not sure how/why you chose your "best model" since I saw some great designs submitted (and mine was honestly not one of those). I have a two year old niece who reacted better on other examples such as #18 's no. 1 example and #9 's ordinary-looking pets. Still, congrats to dreahatch and I hope s/he keeps working on her/his skills.

    Hi, Check #14 !!!

Is only an initial pose to see if you like the style and design of them, let me know if you would like any change in color or style and if you think of any specific breed, I made the two similars because they are in the same game, then they should keep the same language.

I'm already developing the views you need for 3D modeling. (model sheet)

     I await your feedback

1 and 2 look like adult cats, not kittens. 3 got the right idea. Keep in mind, these will be rated by young children, so think of them as your target audience.
