Contest Brief

I am looking for an original illustration to use on the cover of my second novel. I have an image that I really like which I found on Deviant Art and I have the creator's permission to use it. The problem, however, is that she used some other stock images to form her own and I do not want to take the risk of infringing anybody's copyright.

So, I am looking for a dramatic illustration inspired by the image of the woman I have added. Please feel free to play around with it -- I'm not necessarily looking for an exact copy.

This is the sequel to my first novel and so I am looking for an illustration that somehow reminds the reader of that books cover art. I've included an image of that book's cover too.

*Background should be black

* Female character should be blonde, around 25 years old and ***not overly sexualised***. Despite the original image, I would prefer if her midriff/stomach were not exposed in your image.

* Some kind of mystical energy should be either surrounding her or being projected from her hands. This would ideally be golden or white with gold specks and could be an aura surrounding her or an orb of energy she is holding or projecting.

ALTERNATIVE CONCEPT: Another idea I had for a completely different front cover was of a hole torn in the cover of the book, giving the impression of being able to see inside. You can see torn pages and perhaps some kind of mystical portal (featured in the story) with the silhouette of a female figure.

IMPORTANT: Please leave space above and below your image for me to add the title and my name. Images may be CMYK or RGB color. All images should be sized at 100%, flattened to one layer and a minimum resolution of 300 DPI. Please do not add any text to your design as I prefer to work on the typesetting myself.

Amazon suggests: Requirements for the size of your cover art have an ideal height/width ratio of 1.6, this means:

• A minimum of 625 pixels on the shortest side and 1000 pixels on the longest side
• For best quality, your image would be 1563 pixels on the shortest side and 2500 pixels on the longest side

I need the final image to be in .jpg format.

STORY OVERVIEW: In a future world controlled by a tyrannical government, a young woman discovers that she is the reincarnation of a man who lived 50 years ago and who failed at his task of introducing a mystical substance to the world that would provide free, clean energy. With political and environmental chaos looming, Kara Reyne must take on the most powerful dictatorship in the history of the planet before it's too late.

Having used this site previously for cover art for my short story series, I know how many talented artists there are out there and would encourage you to play around with the concepts and use your own artistic instincts.

The winning artist will be asked if they'd like their name listed in the front material of the novel, which will be sold both as an e-book and a paperback on Amazon.
