Contest Brief

The bar name is Cloud 9. I want the logo to say: elegant but approachable. The target demographic is younger adults between the ages of 25 and 45. I am attaching a couple of pictures with concepts I would like to explore. It is extremely important that this logo is unique. No copying things off of other wine bars or businesses that have the name cloud nine. Each logo should have a stand-alone portion that can be used in applications like a napkin, or a facebook profile picture.

Concept 1. the word "cloud" written in different elegant fonts with the "9" in the background; the "9" is larger, and is a dark red (not purple). The slogan written below is "Tapas and Wine" In this logo the stand-alone portion would be the "c" with the "9" in the background.

Concept 2. The word cloud written with the "9" following it on an abstract cloud background. I dont want a puffy cloud, it has to resemble or remind of a cloud but not "scream" cloud. Play with the colors black, antique yellow, and dark red/burgundy. In this logo the stand-alone portion would be the "9" on a cloud background. This picture that I just uploaded is an example of an abstract cloud.

Concept 3. The word "cloud" followed by an abstract wine glass that contains the number "9" see the picture. The wine glass should be more of a 9 than a wine glass but you should easily be able to tell that it is a wine glass. In this logo the stand-alone portion is the wine glass that contains a 9

Ok attention all numbers that are referred to below:

    #8, #47, #66, #70, #69, #54, #49, #46

You all have come up with some awesome concepts so far. Our client was partial to the entries listed above and I have one last challenge for you:

They want to "try" to see if incorporating something "food" related into the logo would work visually without cluttering the design. They are primarily a wine bar, but also provide great "tapas" foods (Small Dishes, Hors d'oeuvres, etc). We would greatly appreciate an honest attempt at working this concept in without cluttering the design. They mentioned something like a fork or a table, but you don't have to hold to that. We really like maintaining simplicity, so I guess we'll see if it's doable!

To everyone else, great work! Over half of the designs were considered and that's very impressive. There's lots of talent on here. We'll be keeping track of all participants that provided designs we were interested in. Good luck everyone!

Another random suggestion to keep in mind is that we want to be able to use "part" or the "graphic" portion of the logo as a standalone "crest" if you will for napkins, Facebook profile pic, etc. See my "Crests" screenshot for the idea of "Balance" and usability on it's own and if you "can" achieve it in your current design intent, maybe try it out?

Overall guys, I like what I'm seeing (most particularly in the ones I mentioned above), and I know I'm pushing you guys for a small budget, but please know that anyone we award on here goes into our "call list" for use in the future projects, especially higher budget ones. This is just a lower budget project, but we really want to come through for these guys because their a local and friends of ours :)

#28, I really like how you combined the Number 9 with a wine glass into it's own unique shape. Can you perhaps mess around with it a bit more and see if we can get a slightly more elegant feel out of it? This could possibly mean a bit more curvy, but also the fact that it's technically an angled/3d view (most apparent on the base of the glass) might be taking away from your ability to make it curvy & elegant. See the "Elegant" screenshots for some curves that caught my eye and the "Neat_Modern" screenshot for general reference. The "Neat_Modern" one just caught my eye while I was looking around.

#3, I like where you're going with the simplicity, but I'd like to see the body/stem of the glass to have thinner, more elegant and curvy lines. See the "Elegant" screenshot for the type of elegance we might want to achieve. Also, maybe try to work the Number 9 into the graphic portion of the logo itself so the graphic can be used on it's own. The fonts are curvy, but I like the fonts Number 23 used a bit better.

#8, I like where you're going with the graphic portion (left) of your logo. Love the glasses inside and the cloud looks good. The "Cloud9" needs to be in a more elegant font. Also, the black underside of your graphic pairs well with the red contrast-wise, but the larger black "lump" on the right seems to be a bit out of place with it's straight bottom and doesn't exactly imply the shape of anything like a glass, etc. Perhaps work in something more curvy and less heavy on the bottom/bottom right of the black portion? You may also try working the text "underneath" the logo to maintain balance as an option for "tall & skinny" vs. "thin & long".

#16 & #14, I like your tiny glasses on the first 2 (the blue cloud isn't necessary), and I prefer the Number 9 inside the red like in Number 14. It feels like it's more "part of the logo". The main thing I think needs work is the black glass. The red portion feels elegant, but the black glass loses a bit of the "elegant" feel. Take a look at the "Neat_Modern" logo especially and the logos in the "Elegant" screenshot to get a feel for the sort of "elegance" I'd like to see in the curves of the glass.

Hey all participants, thanks for the great work so far. I'm going to give you some feedback and clarification, so please look for your number(s) in the mentions below. The clarification will be broken into several comments due to Freelancer.com’s absurdly stupid limitations on character count per message (face palm):

#23 & #22, I like how you attached the stem of the wine glass to the Number 9 -- can I see you work the shape of the wine glass into the Number 9 itself something like Number 28 did? We want the overall look of the logo to maintain that curvy-elegant style. And I'm mostly referring to the top portion of the glass (the Number 9/bowl of the glass) -- I like the base of your glass a bit better than Number 28. It's simpler when using a side 2d/view rather than a 3D/ angled view. Also, I like your font for "Cloud" in Number 23, but the addition on top of the letter "C" in Number 22 isn't necessary, although I see where you were going with it.

Please check the new photo I updated to give you an example of the cloud I was looking for for logo concept #2. Also with the concept #3 could we explore forming a 9 from the top and side of the wine glass as in my sketch?

9 isnt quite what I'm going for. I think that the glass there looks more like a martini glass and the color scheme/fonts are not elegant.
