Design a Logo for company

Contest Brief

I need a company logo for a software company and an accompanying icon (a square version).

The company does mostly utilities and it strives for technical perfection. The logo should hint at speed. The company name "Velis works" is a strongly preferred part of logo, but can be shortened or entirely left out if a better result can thus be achieved. This (shortening) is pretty much expected for the icon.
I like colors / gradients and glow effect, but I'm also expecting a modern design (which are currently of a more monochromatic tendency). Perhaps a balance of both?
Primary logo color preference is saturated blue. Other colors possible, given a brave designer.
There needs to be a light AND dark background version of both images (4 images total), unless one design works well for both backgrounds.

I have envisioned an arc / ellipse of sorts which would "envelop" the company name. Together (the arc and the name) they should interact such that an impression of speed would be given.

The icon must rasterise well down to 32x32px. Transparency at your leisure.
Result must (also) be delivered as vector images (common format such as eps).

    when u elimiate single design 20 credits are less from our points table.we have done so much of hardwork,even after contest closed u are eliminating.thats really hurt.

      The kind that has to make a decision about what proposal to actually use. Is there a better way of selecting this? You can't realize just how painful it was for me to reject all those great proposals, so no need to make me feel even worse about it.
