Design a Logo for Our Home

Contest Brief
Here's a fun project for someone with imagination and a working knowledge of "named houses". As you know many houses are named in England and other parts of the world. Usually, named homes carry some significance to them like the family name (something like Preston House) or they are part of a large estate (Graceland in TN).
We live in a small neighborhood in Texarkana. It was the first housing edition added to the city, so the homes are from the early 1800's (even horse hitching post still in front of some). Each house is named "Webber Place". The name is preceded by a number such as "1 Webber Place," "2 Webber Place" and so on. Our home happens to be "5 Webber Place". We have an address of 5 Webber Street.
Since we moved into the home, we have experienced strange happenings. It doesn't matter whether you believe in ghost or not to bid on this project, by the way, we're simply looking for a logo. We want a logo for our home's plaque that we will purchase either online or through someone like Home Depot. The plaque will simply show the house construction date, the name "5 Webber Place" and have the logo you create on it....if you win.
We need a logo that incorporates the following "5", "W", and finally "P". You can see that stands for "5 Webber Place". We would like this in a style that can easily be added to a plaque, ordered as a wall mount inside the home, and added to our blogsite (5webberplace.blogspot.com). I have in mind something using the letters and number noted above, but nothing fancy. Don't add ghost, not everyone believes in that. Don't get fancy and have hills in it with all sorts of colors and trees ext. No need to put a house in the logo, we know what the house looks like.
You need to keep in mind that plaques, will have limited space. Also keep in mind that a small plaque inside the home, like in the entry, will need to be simple in design. I'm excited to see the designs. Our last contest pulled in a lot of excellent designs for our company, and unfortunately we could only take one! I've found that the people designing logos at Freelancer have some outstanding talents. Please apply those talents again within the limitation we have set forth here. I understand that it's not much to work with, but I'm sure someone with impress.
Thanks and good luck!

I'd like to thank everyone for submitting entries for our contest. This was a tough choice, but we made it as a family for our home. We went back-and-forth between several entries, and in the end decided to go with a simple design that could easily be duplicated for plaques, signs, cards, and websites. Again, thank you all. There are some fantastic entries, but as you know we could only select one winner and the vote carried it.

I'm excited to see three people already jumping into the contest. Thank you all so much for spending your talents and time on our small project. I should mention that if you want to google the house on google maps, there is an old picture there by searching 5 Webber Place or Street, Texarkana, Arkansas. You can also visit our little blog at 5webberplace.wordpress.com where you will find a little history on the house, the area, and a full front picture on the "about" page. Don't look too close to the front picture or you'll see the ghost in the front door window....maybe. Anyway, I hope everyone has fun with the project/contest. So far seeing some great designs. I can tell it's going to be tough to select a winner in the end with so many fantastic entries. Thank you all!

We also do not have a color preference; however, that being said, I am looking for something that can be printed on a sign in gold or clear letters. Keep in mind this will also be used on a plaque like these http://www.brookstone.com/personalized-wedding-plaque?bkeid=compare%7cmercent%7cgooglebaseads%7csearch&mr:trackingCode=4E7B8D25-3795-E111-B2BE-001B21A69EB0&mr:referralID=NA&mr:adType=pla&mr:ad=20923704324&mr:keyword=&mr:match=&mr:filter=20101249044&gclid=CLy64JCr7bkCFejm7Aodi0YAZQ or what you would see at Home Depot or Lowes.

For those of you who have asked for individual feedback, I'm sorry if I have been unable to meet that request. I will try at the close to provide some feedback to everyone as to why we liked the design or did not. I can't promise I'll be able to do that for everyone, and you have to keep in mind that my opinion is just that...an opinion. I certainly can not represent all the people on Freelancer.
Again, thank you each so much for taking time to consider this project! It's a huge honor to see so many entries!- 10 years ago

Wow, 97 great entries for the contest! I'm surprised by the number of people interested in our logo contest and I appreciate each contribution. There's just a little over five days left now, so it won't be long now before our family has to sit down and make a final decision.
One thing I've noticed and I want all designers to consider - If you make a logo that includes a design such as a shield, or square around it, I am assuming you are trying to demonstrate how your design would look on a plaque. Remember we're going to use this on our website, a metal plaque outside the home, and at least one, maybe two, plaques inside the home. This means the design should be able to easily transfer to these various settings. The "5 W P" however designed, must be easily seen.- 10 years ago

I have been out of town for a couple of days and just returned to see more great entries. For some reason, I can not look at page "3" right now. It will not open. So, if your entry does not have a star by it yet, please don't worry. I try to put at least one star by each entry to indicate to you that I've looked at it.

Hi, a quick question: do you prefer the designs to be a bit more classical, with sans serif fonts and perhaps a little twist like #3 , or something more modern that combines letters and uses sans fonts like #16 , #22 , or #2 ?
-
Contest Holder - 10 years ago
We're really leaning toward the classical designs more than combined fonts at this time. Have to keep in mind that this must be able to be duplicated for a plaque as well as website.

Please keep in mind, as mentioned before, this logo will need to be able to be incorporated into a house plaque like the ones sold at Home Depot or Lowes and at several online sites. These plaques are usually metal in design and bolted to the wall. It will then also need to be able to be added to a metal or wooden plaque (smaller) inside the entry to the home and in the kitchen area. We're hoping for a design basically that will work on business cards, plaques, signs, stencils, and the web. So, once approved we would like to obtain all possible formats to submit online.

I just wanted to quickly touch base this morning. First, I haven't had a chance to rate all the entries or make comments on them yet. I am reading the notes in the list and looking to see how these logos will look on our site, sign, and wall inside the home. Our entire family is very excited with the variety of entries we're seeing. Some jump out immediately and others aren't exactly what we're looking for at this time. Keep in mind though, this contest has twenty-five more days at this point. Please don't be disappointed if you have not heard anything back from us yet. I promise to try and make comments on all regardless of the winner.

We're seeing a lot of great designs here. My family continues to look over these designs, and we're excited that everyone is so interested! I'm trying to make comments on each design as I can and use the star system. Some are really hitting home and some, to be honest, are not exactly what we're looking for in our logo. However, that being said, I appreciate each entry because you guys are presenting different concepts, different styles, and you're certainly thinking outside the box. Just because one of these designs does not appeal to us, does not mean it's not a great design. I wanted people to be individual in their presentations. In the end, I can tell this is going to be a difficult family choice! Thank you all again for great presentations so far!

Yes, my initial thought was to give everyone enough time to design and think about it. I'm not sure if I shouldn't have kept it shorter, but I'd hate to miss that perfect person's design simply based on a time schedule...plus, I'm putting up the small cash deposit for this and paying for the contest, so I figured I might as well use the max time I can.
