Contest Brief

Please read the attached PDF file.

The successful candidate must be able to design a site that really keeps the visitor interested and clicking, and ultimately purchasing. If you can show us sample sites you have developed, we will have an idea of whether you have what we need. You will also be required to produce a logo for our brand name as part of the project.

Our target market is the construction industry - Building Contractors, Architects and Construction Engineers.

Our product is solar pv panels and ancillary equipment - panels, inverters, isolators etc.

We will give you some pictures of company specific products, but you need to get other "thematic" pictures, e.g. of construction and solar panels that are not copyright, or let us know the cost of using stock photos as an addition to the project cost.

We want a clear crisp site. It is for business customers, so no need for fancy sliders and preferably the site should be clear and not feel cluttered.

We will also need a product selector which can calculate legal requirements and offer various options which meet the architects requirements.

At this stage, you should produce a home page and a mockup of the calculator page and product pages and confirm that you understand the rest of our specifications and are willing and able to meet those. We will then select a winner who will be required to complete the site for the price.

    This contest is back available again. The winner was unable to do the work. We have also simplified our requirements so it is easier to do. We need a clean, easy to read website. We need a few calculators, and we will post a new brief later. Lets know if you are interested in this.

    Most submissions have pictures that are inappropriate for our market. I don't mind paying for Istock photos if you find better ones there. Our target customer will be building 30 to 100 houses at a time and will use 3 or 4 panels per house. There is a typical picture of a construction site at http://www.ehsmith.co.uk/images/casestudies/full/Furnace-Lane-1.jpg which is relevant, but just isn't a nice photo. I also want to include pictures of construction workers in hard hats etc. For example http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-photo-14394165-mounting.php?st=ebd5381 or http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-photo-18616351-sun-energy.php?st=dcff14f . Please keep the emphasis on construction of this type of house. Thanks.

      I think the graphic you put in as an entry was just an Obama picture. Do you plan to do a mock up of a home page so I can get a sense of how you would put this together?     The issue with many websites is that they fail to get people to click into other pages on the site. The other pages shouldn't just be a menu item. Graphics should be used to establish other hyperlinks on the home page to pull people in. For example - a picture with a calculator, or maybe an architects drawing board, or a house plan, or two architects puzzling over figures- any of these could pull people in with a heading "calculate what PV panels you need to meet Part L on your project. Another picture of an electricity meter might pull you into the calculator page for "See how much money a PV system will reduce your bill". Another might be of two builders on a roof mounting a panel with a heading "simple roof mounting systems" which leads to our roof mounting page. Another graphic showing a pallet being delivered, or maybe a panel and all the parts labled "complete kit of all parts" which links to the kits page. Please be creative - I want other ideas besides my own,

    Just a thought about the graphic showing nationwide distribution. It needs to be a very small map of Ireland, with perhaps curved arrows extending out to other parts of the country and a simple heading "Next day delivery nationwide".

      I am colourblind - I would be advised by others on colour. Obviously for solar we are looking at blue skies and pictures of houses with solar panels, so something that goes in with that.

    Just in case you think you're totally wasting your time, there are only three entries so far, so you are all in the running. Some of the entries have taken large pictures of ground mounted systems. While such pictures should be included, the emphasis is on roof mounted solar PV systems, preferably in housing estates. Thanks
