You specifically mentioned 3ds Max and Blender for your Unity workflow any reason? Could this be modeled in Maya as well? I've researched to see if a Maya to Unity workflow was problematic but it seems that it is not.

If you can show that a model you build works in Unity and if you are willing to work with us on any issue that arises with porting the model into Unity, we would welcome it.
