Fairy Godmother's sister -- 2
- Status: Closed
- Prize: $100
- Entries Received: 12
- Winner: stants
Contest Brief
I require a cartoon (think in the style of Disney) digital illustration of the following comical situation:
The Fairy Godmother's sister has come to check on a very cute child that is asleep in a bed in a typical children's bedroom (toys laying around, drawings on wall, chest of drawers, bedside table, lamp, closet slightly open, window - moonlight shining in, etc etc).
The fairy godmother has a hand under the pillow to adjust the pillow but in doing so she wakes up the child. The child looks up at the fairy godmother with big cute eyes and smiles (missing one front tooth) and but the fairy godmother gets a fright and screams when she realises the child is awake and is looking straight at her.
For the avoidance of doubt the key things to illustrate are:
The scene (and all the bedroom elements, window, moonlight)
The Fairy Godmother - Short, sweet, warm, cuddly (plump), shes very kind and gentle. Her clothes can be any colour that you think conveys her personality. N.B - the Fairy Godmother does not have a wand in this scene.
The Child - female, cute, big eyes, missing front tooth,
Just google Disney Fairy Godmother for examples of their illustrations. N.B - Please dont just copy or adapt the Disney version
Its probably hard to be creative with the bedroom elements, so i'll judge the winner on how well they illustrate the fairy godmothers sister and the child and capture the comical nature of the scene.
I will require the key Illustrator eps files in Pantone (PMS) color, four color, grayscale, black, and white versions and in various formats suitable for high resolution printing and for publishing on the web. (i.e. 300 dpi & 72 dpi).

Hello all, my fiancé and I have reviewed all the entries and created a shortlist that we will use tomorrow to poll some of our friends, family and colleagues. I will select the winner by 5pm Melbourne EST Friday 25/04/2014. Regardless of who wins this contest there are at least 4 freelancers that we would like to collaborate with on other projects. Thank you again to all of you for your efforts.

Thanks everyone for your excellent entries, the standard is very high overall. I didn't rate anything 5 stars as even the top entries need a little bit more work, but I am nevertheless very impressed and pleased overall, and I am looking forward to collaborating with many of you moving forward. Thanks for renewing my faith in Freelancer.

Hi all, Just a quick note to say that to make it easier for us to review entries, I am going to reject some of the earlier versions (i.e - B&W) of illustrations that some of you submitted, and leave the updated ones for judging. Thanks again.

I totally agree with HackGate, the results are going to be greater with painting, it's going to reflect even more the Disney Style. We hope you allow us that.

Hi, can you please review entry #10?. I just want to confirm if that's the style you're looking for to keep digitalizing the rest of the illustration.
Thanks- 11 years ago

Yep, its a little closer to the style of Disney. The features are too cat like though. Remember, though she is a fairy, she still looks like an elderly woman. You need to add the bedroom elements and the child obviously. Please read the feedback i gave to previous entrant HackGate for further guidance.

Hello, your design brief states that you'll require the image in 4 color. I am sorry for asking but does that mean CMYK? Please let me know.

Guys for brevity I'm just going to be frank with my comments. HackGate's entry is the best so far, but as there are only two entries thats not really saying much.. The Fairy Godmothers sister is ok, but not great. Sadly the child is ugly, not cute. I said think Disney - Disney does cute, adorable, lovable characters. Also, I said a hand under the pillow, not that she removes the whole pillow. The child is supposed to simply wake from sleeping and stare up at her, not sit upright. That's not a $100 illustration.

I disagree. Disney has a very specific look and feel to their illustrations. A reference image would have corralled the creative scope.

I showed your illustration to several colleagues and they all commented that they thought the child was neither cute nor illustrated ala Disney. If the contest is proving too hard, simply withdraw your entry. Please limit any additional commentary to questions regarding the design brief or my feedback. Thanks.
