Read the full prompt / question here: https://celebrityfanalyzer.com/nov-2022-who-should-play-the-next-james-bond-and-does-it-matter/ You will be entering to participate in a competition at www.celebrityfanalyzer.com.
WHAT IS: www.CelebrityFanalyzer.com?
Celebrity Fanalyzer is an essay and art blog that hosts a competition each month via the Freelancer web platform. In response to an open ended question, authors are invited to submit an essay answer each month. In parallel, a competition is held to produce each month’s hero image. This is third ever competition - the site is brand new and I'm still learning how to run the competition.
HOW IT WORKS:
-- Entrants must have a Freelancer account. No money is handled outside the Freelancer platform.
-- To win, you must be one of the top five entrants.
-- Each of the top ~5 entrants is guaranteed a prize of $50.00.
-- The top ~5 essays are then posted to the website (This means you will get $50.00).
-- Feedback is given starting in the second week of competition.
-- The grand prize winner is the essay that receives the most positive reactions / votes. Grand prize is $250.00.
-- Enter the competition October 1 - 16.
-- Voting starts when finalists essays are released live to the website in the 3rd week of the month.
-- Last day of voting is the last Saturday of the month.
-- Submission should be in plain text format (.txt).
-- Please include in your entry one link to an image that you would like to include on the website (images must be free to share and in JPG or PNG format).
-- Use a clever and original title. Do not use the essay prompt as a title.
-- Provide a 100 words or less excerpt or summary.
In the following month, a new prompt and question will be posted and we'll do it all again! (Please Note* I do not leave feedback for contest holders: only when I post projects. Please forgive.)
FULL PROMPT
Beginning in 1962, James Bond has been a staple of the film industry ever since.
In order, he has been portrayed by:
- Sean Connery (1962 – 1971)
- David Niven (1967)
- George Lazenby (1969)
- Roger Moore (1973 – 1985)
- Timothy Dalton (1987 – 1989)
- Pierce Brosnan (1995 – 2002)
- Daniel Craig (2006 – 2021)
The classic character, a British Secret Agent, is set in contemporary setting and perhaps that’s just it. The contemporary setting is not a static things. The real life British Secret Service certainly cannot be stagnant and must evolve and so why not the artistic franchises that reflect it?
Government intelligence agencies are fundamentally pragmatic institutions. Art, and the world of art, has the option at least to be anything but pragmatic. It can serve any number of purposes including nostalgia, social commentary, or nothing but the joy of its creation.
Art, in the form of blockbuster movies at least, is tied to business and business, no surprise, must be pragmatic. Here, at the intersection of art, culture, and business lies an important intersection of considerations. The tremendous success of the James Bond franchise means that the decision cannot help but go unnoticed even though, fundamentally, what difference does it make? From X-ray shades to alligator submarines and laser space battles, James Bond routinely forays into the ridiculous and so should we, the public, even care who plays this fanciful figment of imagination?
Happy Fanalyzing!
