Contest Brief

I’m commissioning a traditional-style shield illustration that weaves together three key motifs: the phrases “Memento Mori” and “Amor Fati”, plus the unmistakable silhouette of the of Jesus Chris crown. The overall palette should stay strictly monochrome so the symbolism speaks through shape, shadow, and contrast rather than color.

Here’s what I’m picturing. The shield itself can follow a classic medieval contour—nothing overly ornate, just enough curvature to feel authentic. “Memento Mori” and “Amor Fati” need prominent placement, balanced so neither phrase overpowers the other. The cross should be fully integrated into the composition (for example, forming a central spine or intersecting the wording), not floating as an afterthought.
