Contest Brief

At pinball Armor, we manufacture heavy duty covers for pinball machines for transportation and storage. We also manufacture dust covers for pinball machines. The dust covers are black with no graphics on them. We are planning to launch a series of dust covers with graphics on them. We are looking for artists that can create graphic set which will be silkscreened on our dust covers. Each graphic set will be based on a theme.

The first theme we would like to create is "spooky." The artwork you design should complement the existing art of "The Addams Family" pinball machine, but does not need to be limited to complementing this machine alone (there are many other "spooky" themed pinball machines, ideally the artwork would be a complement to some of these machines as well). Artwork should not replicate or infringe on any copyrighted material. There are several pictures of The Addams Family pinball machine attached below.

The dust cover covers the glass, sides, and front of the machine. For an example of the dust cover on a machine, see attachment "cover on machine.jpg." Because most pinball collectors have their machines set up side-by-side, the most visible surface on the cover is the large panel that covers the glass. The side panels are not as prominent, nor is the front. Therefore, when designing the artwork, focus should be placed on the glass panel, or "top panel."

The side panels and front panel are sewn to the top panel, see "Panel-layout.jpg" for an example.

For this contest, please design graphics for 4 panels using the templates we have provided. The fabric we will be using for the dust cover is black. Therefore, in each template, we have added a black shape for the background to simulate the fabric (which we will delete) and a outline of the panel. You can overrun the edge of the cabinet outline with your design if you desire. Here are the specifics for each panel:

Top panel: use "Top Panel template.AI" for your artwork. Again, this is the primary panel on the cover and should be the focus. Use up to 3 colors.
Side panels: use "left side panel template.AI" and "right side panel template.AI" for your artwork. Use only 1 color. These panels can be mirror images of each other but don't necessarily have to be. No penalty for mirror images.
Front panel: use "front panel template.AI" for your artwork. Use up to 2 colors.

This is our 1st attempt at this so please contact me if you have any questions or need for clarification.

This sounds kind of unknown, But could you provide the PSD formats for the edit's? I prefer using PSD for the designs and Vector for the Final touch.

Sure, but you're going to have to help me out… I have both Photoshop and illustrator but I barely know how to use them. Do you need a template? Or do you just need settings? What are the critical criteria you need me to specify? Thanks for your patience…

Different is totally fine. A lot of people own The Addams Family, so if you make one that complements that machine, it helps. But if you would prefer to do a different theme (for example, put a bunch of skulls in your design) that could work too.
