Contest Brief

Hello everyone,

introduction:

We are a group of people who came together to work on this game concept. We origin from different countries, like Indonesia, the Netherlands and the States and most have a background in the game development and design business.
But we all share that we all like our concept and want to make it in to reality. We work on this to start something from ourselves, not for a company. While the concept is done, the planning is made, we are now working on our art.
To speed up the process we are looking for other members for character design and artists for the art. If you are among the best in this contest, we perhaps invite you to work together with us on this game.
We will work on revenue share, but when the art is done, we are expecting investments as well. The artist will work together with others, to create 2d mini characters and comic drawings of their normal versions (with minor animation), to tell the story.

what we need:

The characters we will use in this game are Hamsters. We want them to look sharp, cartoony and show human characteristics. The style we want is the famous vector style, used in the simpsons and angry birds. We want one of the characters designed for this contest. The game will have short comics and/or animation between the levels to tell the story to the players, so the characters need to be rich in detail for the comic. The 2d mini version in the game will be less. We want to see now the ones for the comic. The characters need to be so good we can make a franchise out of it.

- like hamtaro, but sharper, more mature looking, bit thinner bodies
- or like chip and dale from the rescue rangers, but the body structure of a hamster and face less disney-ish

I made a poll for my friends. It is between Tatsuzam and Chubi91.
It is hard, because:
Tatsuzam's hamster has great color, likeable, a strong emotion and the hamster looks witty. The body is also great, but difficult to work from to create other strong hamster characters. Unless i can see it.
Chubi91's hamster has a good body, could be a hero type, but for now looks a bit arrogant. With that body type its easier to create different characters from. Bit more humanoid, while TatsuZam's characters is really hamsterish. Any remarks?

Tatsuzam's character is so lovable and the eyes and the rest of the face are so full of emotion and the hamster is fun to watch. But we want to make hamsters with different characters and can communicate with eachother, its hard to see that happen with her hamster. But if there was just one hamster in the game, this would def be the one. The colors are just great, fresh and fit for comics. Its cute and witty. Just the body. I wish there was a mix of tatsuzam's hamster and that of the other 4.

Chubi91 found the right body for the hamster characters. His designs are fresh and awesome. I can see some little resemblance to Chip, from the Chip And Dales. Good comic style, good sized eyes, good body structure, good color use. His hamster does look selfish tho. But thats perhaps because of the emotion.

3. Archestry created a very fresh design of the main hero, so different from his first entry. The emotions of the hamster are very good. and of very high quality. I also like the patterns in his fur, gives him more character. I am sure that when given time, he can come up with the character. But his hero was originally too tall. And when shortened, the body was a bit out of proportion. I also like the first eyes, not the last one. His hero is missing a bit in the adorable factor, but has all other features.

4. satherghoees kept on delivering high quality entries. With one i liked the most. Her/his style is fresh and awesome and understood right away what graphic style we wanted. I also like the stubbornness of not giving the hero a ropegun, instead giving him grenades and bombs every time. The hamster surely is adorable. Her other entries were more mature, but too bad-ass looking. However we havent seen the right mix. The hero needs also to be witty and mature in emotion. A big eyed hamster cant show that. But am sure given time, she/he can make a top character.

We asked for hamster that look adorable, but also mature in character. That means good strong emotions. The main hero, is also a bit skeptical. And because he is a hero, also witty and clever.
nr 5. I really like the character designs of AlexGilBle. His Otak-a is second best and the Sunden hamster is cool. The main hero however, misses a bit of likeability and cool factor. Leader, yes. Cool leader, less so. I think with the right eyes his design would score way higher.

hmmmmm..... pfffffffff........so difficult....

From start i can already say
1: none of these hamster characters can be used for the main game.
2. I couldnt find the right fit for perhaps our hardest character to design, Otak-A, (means Brain A in Indonesian), Ncorva is closest to creating a good Otak-A
3. I am sure that the one with 5 star entries, when given time, can come up with just the right character.

As i said before, tomorrow i will chose the winner together with the producer.
But here is my opinion for now:
The two who mixed mature/coolness with cuteness the best way are satherghoes1 and chubi91. They both have delivered several good entries.
Next to it is archestry, whose newest character is great, good emotions, but could be a bit more ''fluffier.''
The graphic style of morizeraky is just fresh, so easy but so good. Just the character itself is off. too buff.

  And thanks everyone for their entries. I wish i could reward all of you.
  With that being said, maybe later i will contact the others, because this will be a franchise and we might change graphic and character styles for some minigames. Infact, before this big game this comp is about, we will release a smaller less detailed promo version of it.
