Contest Brief

I need a cover front cover design for an ebook I am in the process of editing.

I have no images or concept art so please read the description of the setting and the characters and let your imaginations run wild. I'll always answer queries and questions if you feel like you need more detail before starting your design.

As I can't guarantee the eBook will sell I won't be offering any ongoing royalties and will need to own the image exclusively but I will happily list your name on the dedication page along with any URL's to online portfolios which I hope might attract some extra attention to the winner.

I ask that the final submission be in at least a JPEG and a pdf.

The ideal size is 1000 x 1600 pixels

It must have the eBook title which is "The Pause" and the author name (me) shown as "K F Williams"

A quick history behind the novel is that Earth is in the year 2263, energy is rationed due to the on-going fossil fuel crisis, I'm working on an Earth, that despite the advanced years lack of a replacement power source has stiffled our technological growth so things are pretty much the same as they are now. What the people of Earth don't realise is that they have shared a barrier of energy and magic known as the Nexus since the late broze age, which divides Earth from the planet Favlas a place full of magic and mythical creatures.

The Mages who kept the Nexus under control have failed in their duty and the rift is about to solidify into a doorway between the two worlds.

Enter our two characters.

The story is told from the first person perspective on Professor Johnathan Shay, a teacher of English Lit at a High School in San Degio. He is also over 400 years old and what the Favlain's call Blood Dependant. (Basically this is as it sounds, they have an infection which prolongs life after death but are forced to facilitate this on a diet of blood. Think Vampire but without the garlic, sunlight and religious sterotypes. Just a regular guy who happens to need blood to survive.)

In Shay's class is his one weakness in the form of 18 year old Rosemary Harkin (or Rose depending on his mood), a disenchanted brutally honest student who blood calls to Shay.

What starts as his need to hunt and feed quickly morphs into something infinatly more tender and protective when Shay discovers the source of his preoccupation stems from the fact that Harkin is genetically the decendant of his brothers family over thirteen generations, this shared tiny bioloical marker in both of them gives them what is called a Blood Bond (again as it sounds.)

Shay is put in the impossible situation of trying to explain all this too her and keep her safe for his own sanity having just discovered that he has a family after being so long alone, while the Nexus tears a path of destruction across Earth reuniting the two worlds and changing the course of history forever.

This is an ADVENTURE story.
This is NOT a romance, there is no sex, I will not accept any entry depicting any kind of image linking a 400 year old man and an 18 year old girl. I know there are alot of vampire romances out there but this is not one of them. He is a teacher, then her guide through all things magic and her uncle (thirteen generations old of course) but nothing more.
I have no problem with artists adding them to thier covers, just watch your content

Just to let everyone know for future reference, I will NOT be sealing the project. If the small prize money did not give me away the budget for this is very tight and sealing the project costs another £30.00 which, unfortunately, I just don't have to spend.

I am sorry if this puts people off and I will keep an eye on designs and if one does start to resemble another freelancers work I will reject the entry for that reason. Also if a freelancer feels that thier work is being ripped off they can post a message here, or email me privatly if they wish at mythicalkitten@gmail.com, and I will reject entires if I agree they are being reworked.

  Thanks for the info, I have always been careful of faces on covers in the past. As this is on the public board all the freelancers participating will be able to see your advise I am sure they will vector their images if they need to.

  This is for info and guranteed that the faces/ model used on the design by Albasito is not copy righted even the faces of girl/ model used are our own models. We are attached to media and TV industry here locally and have many faces paid to work for us. Regards
