Hi,

I need a basic map to illustrate an ebook version of the old epic poem Beowulf, which takes place in the Iron Age. By basic I mean that the map should not include any text or cities, and probably no landscape markers such as mountains or forest either unless the freelancer can incorporate it in a subtle way. The idea is to turn the map into an interactive map by adding icons that the reader can tap which will then reveal a pop-up box containing text and an image – but this will be done later on. I only mention this so that the illustrator has an idea of how the map will be used.

Despite its simplicity, the map should not be boring. I imagine it to have the look and feel of an old map – like it was made of parchment paper.

I have attached a map only to show the section of Europe that the map should illustrate. The ratio is 4:3 and resolution should be at least 2048x1536

The map does not have to be very detailed or completely accurate, but it should include at least the bigger islands of Denmark and the big lakes in Sweden (not on the attached map). I trust the freelancer to find a balance.

UPDATE: added a parchment paper map. This is an example. NOT to be used in the project.

UPDATE 2: added "map 3 middle earth". An example to show a great transition between ocean and land.

#8 comes close, but I would like the line that separates ocean and land to be softer - I'm looking for something that has more of a hand drawn feel. Also, no compass in the upper right hand corner. Thanks to all so far..
