Contest Brief

I need a single portrait-like image of a 'futuristic woman' - i.e. that implies she is from the future, and/or is partly a computer/android. (Read the detailed description below carefully.)

This can be either modified from a stock image, or perhaps created from scratch as high-quality illustration or 3D modelling, though it needs to be *photorealistic* in style (not cartoonish or too artistic). If you base it on a stock image, use whatever watermarked or lower-resolution version is available, tell me and I will buy the proper image (assuming it's not expensive) if you win.

Detailed description of image:

1. White female, youngish (say 25-35), attractive, fairly approachable, but otherwise neutral in character (not overly sexy, austere, weird, etc.)

2. Futuristic: I leave it to you exactly how to indicate this. She could appear to be partly computer/android, but if so she should be mostly human and approachable (so not too weird) - like what the character in the film 'Her' might look like! Some suggestions of ways to make her futuristic: graphical treatment (e.g. fuzzy or pixellated); incorporate hi-tech graphics (e.g. numbers, circuit board tracks, geometric stuff). It could be a fairly subtle effect. There should not be additional people/objects in the image, not should she wear a hat or have an extreme hairdo or other overly fantasy/sci-fi elements.

As inspiration, I've attached a few images which have roughly the right futuristic feel - though don't take them too literally as none of them fit all the requirements. (E.g. the 'visor' image wouldn't suit as it doesn't show her eyes, so she looks too android.)

3. Pose etc.: the image must be fully face-on and looking at the viewer, with eyes clearly visible and head upright; preferably showing the whole upper half of the body, otherwise just head & shoulders. If upper half of body, arms should be by her sides (hands invisible), and the image should also be suitable for cropping to head & shoulders.

4. Colours: there should be a prominent colour of BRIGHT RED in the picture (probably the only prominent colour). E.g. she could have bright red hair, and/or something else red (lipstick, clothes, glasses). The whole image should be suitable for placing on a BLACK background - so the image background should be solid black or fading to black (though if you have an excellent submission that can't work this way it might perhaps still do).

5. Size: roughly square in shape, at least (say) 1000 pixels wide/high so it can be used in print, or vector graphics. The image shouldn't be too detailed & fussy as it will be often used at a fairly small size (as a headshot on screen) as well as at medium size.

Feel free to submit something not fully finished, or (as mentioned) using a low-res or watermarked stock image to be replaced if you win. If you win I may request minor modifications (included in the price) or am happy to pay extra for significant modifications.

When you reject our images we get no experience points at all on the site. It is not fair the artists that take the time to put in a lot of effort and time into them to just be rejected. Someone who slaps a pair of glasses on an image get stars. I hope that you would at least give a few star rating so all everyone's efforts counts for something. Thank you

My apologies, didn't recall the brief that you want her to be approachable and not too sci-fi. I made another one, but it is also an unfinished digital-painting. If I win I can make it realistic, as can be seen here: http://artmancer.deviantart.com/art/Yummy-Yumi-256034418 I hope this entry answers the brief and your liking. #131

Some other ideas for futuristic effects: (a) bright red eyebrows, (b) a bright red tattoo or face paint. You only need to use one futuristic effect (because she's meant to be human or mostly human, and still attractive), and it can be quite subtle, though it needs to be fairly visible when the picture is small.

More general feedback: again, you don't have to use a visor! If you use one please make her eyes clearly visible (unlike the pic I posted in the brief, which looks too android). I prefer the shape of the visor in #61 / #62 (like glasses/goggles) to #20 / #29 / #30 because it's clearer what they are.

Some general feedback on the submissions #1- #19 : I rejected most of these either because the woman looked too scary/weird, or wasn't photorealistic enough. (Or clearly didn't follow the guidelines.) She should look fairly approachable; her full face should be visible. I'm not sure whether a visor (e.g. in #20 ) is a good way of making her futuristic. Also the image needs to work at a small size, and I'm not sure in this case that it's clear enough what the visor is.

#1 - please read the description: 'fairly neutral in character (not overly sexy, austere, etc.) ... She could appear to be partly computer/android, but if so she should be mostly human (so not too weird)'. This image is way too scary and weird. Also, is it your own original work??
