Kitchen mixer Tap/Faucet locking mechanism

Contest Brief

Single lever kitchen mixer taps are commonplace around the world. With these taps there is a single lever directly connected to a cartridge that controls both the water flow and the mixed water temperature selection. See picture of an example attached - to select temperature you rotate the lever between the hot and the cold or a midway point for mixed. To adjust flow you pull or push the level. This is a completely standard concept.

What we want is a design in the metal faucet body/handle that provides a neat means of locking the tap so that some special action is needed to operate it at least for hot water (but a lock on any use at any temperature would be OK too if easier). This is for safety so that children for example would not use it with very hot water. For example, maybe you would need to push the lever in the reverse direction to allow it to move.

Any solution must be very reliable and simple and neat. It should not be possible to leave the level in the unlocked position (this might suggest its easier to make the lock operate on flow regardless of the temperature setting).

We just expect a sketch of an idea at this stage - enough detail to see the principle involved. Good ideas (perhaps more than one) could be invited as a follow up to be developed in CAD to something we can look at in more detail and possibly prototype.
