Logo Design for a Fermentary / Meadery

Contest Brief
Overview: Southern Republic Fermenting Company, a small hand-craft fermentary centered on fruit wines and meads, needs a logo. Its design needs to be implementable in bottle labels, website design, and other paraphernalia related to the craft alcohol industry. The Southern Republic name is based on historical values of 1860 Charleston, South Carolina (see the attached image for visual reference). When the South Carolina Convention voted for Secession, the Palmetto State nullified the Constitution and created the new "Southern Republic." We at Southern Republic Fermenting Co. want traditional fine grape wine enthusiasts to "Nullify the Ordinary, Secede from the Norm."
Specifications:
1) Historically based (Charleston is after all the home of the spirit of secession as well as the spot of the first shot of the Civil War.)
2) 19th century font
3) Earth-tone color scheme
4) NO typical confederate imagery
All other options are on the table. We're looking for creativeness, yet simplicity inspired by 1860 Charleston.

Employer Feedback
“Has a great handle on overall design vision. Not only can he put ideas to paper, he can also independently create variations that I never thought of. Good job and I will definitely think to hire him again if I need a project done.”

jaskoraul7, #28 ... a few things:
1) can you make the border like #26 ?
2) Can you turn the cannon in the opposite direction?
3) Can you spell out South Carolina instead of S.C.?
Thanks. I like the font and it looks fresh.- 12 years ago

Aduetratti, I've posted an additional concept based off of your #21 . See the file named SRFC_Logo.001.tiff. Please try to find a way to do something like this. My file is a picture so obviously the quality is low. I expect your file can be of higher quality.

I like #20. I think the incorporation of the other words looks good. Can you fix the misspelling in fermenting? Thanks.

On #21 , can you try taking out the cross-poles and adding the motto: "Nullify the ordinary; Secede from the norm." Make 2 versions: on the 1st version, just add the motto. On the 2nd version, make the cannon smaller and move it below the words fermenting co. The place the motto below the cannon.

aduetratti, I guess I like the original lettering / font from #13. I see the honeycomb outline that you added to the most recent set. It looks busy and goofy. Why not take that out and maybe add a honeybee outline at the tube bores' (the poles) intersection. Then maybe take the solid ends of each bore and make them like the ends of wooden honey sticks? I'm thinking out loud here.

It looks neat. On 2nd thought though, the building doesn't do it for me. Try just the façade.

I'm liking #11. Good cannon orientation. That swirly thing on the bottom is bothering me though. What if we turned that into something else.

gotchya. I like it. Can you put the outline of a honeybee in there somewhere? I like the design, but my concern is that there's nothing in that logo that would make someone think we are a fermenting house / alcohol producer.

Also, can you try a different font? I like block lettering, but perhaps try something a little swankier.

aduetratti, #9 needs a more era-correct piece. Again, try to incorporate the all-caps font you used on #6. Thanks.

Saw #10. Let's fix that cannon to be a more era-correct model. And darken the background.

Does anyone have a design that would incorporate 19th Century Charleston buildings of industrial or military importance. Example, the still-standing Bennet Rice Mill http://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=bennett+rice+mill&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&docid=_YEqkSyBX4KlEM&tbnid=obUxUF1oBwvLhM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.port-of-charleston.com%2FAbout%2Fcommunity%2Fhistory_environ%2Fbennet_rice_mill.asp&ei=JfJ_UpHvI42tkAfhjoHoDQ&bvm=bv.56146854,d.eW0&psig=AFQjCNECMGdwXBuBrjJAqyboDfMOVafh4g&ust=1384202863749578

aduetratti, #5 is my favorite out of your 3 posted. I like the simplicity, but I'm not a fan of the font. It's too whimsical. Also, the color theme is too light. My meads/wines are bold, competing flavors. My bottles and my shop-front need to emulate that. I like your simplicity though. It would be cheap to mass-produce and it is very versatile (i.e. useful on all marketing platforms), which correlates to more bang for the buck.

#7 is better. I don't think I want to use a municipal seal though. For obvious reasons.

Hi, thanks for posting. I don't like the grape references. I also don't really think the designs flow very well together. It seems a bit too complicated / busy.
