Logo Design for The Atlantic Humpback Dolphin Conservation Project

Contest Brief

A logo which depicts the Atlantic Humpback Dolphin in its natural environment. The Atlantic Humpback Dolphin is endemic to the coast of tropical West Africa. It is very rare and is threatened by human activity, especially accidental catches in fishing nets. The Wildlife Conservation Society has researched this species in Gabon and Congo since 2008. Current efforts include outreach to local fishing communities, in whose hands the dolphin's fate lies. The project needs to start producing materials (t-shirts posters etc) and for this we require a logo.

The logo needs to be eye-catching but simple (as few elements and colours as possible, given printing limitations in the area). Ideally depicting dolphins, their proximity to the coast (100 metres, spending most of the time in the surf), local fishing pirogues, and if possible coastal rain-forest.

Initial competition is to identify a suitable designer, further refinement of the piece can proceed as a freelancer project.

    Thank you all for your entries. In general, the majority of designs are too corporate for our audience. The logo is for a conservation project of an endangered species in west Africa, but most designs seem to have focused on the cliche of western, tourist dolphinariums. The graphics however are of a very high standard and I'm sure different companies/contests would be very impressed with the large majority of these designs. We have decided to go for #51 as it has taken into account all aspects of the brief - the species itself (which, as mentioned has a distinct hump in front of the dorsal - very different to a typical bottlenose dolphin), the rainforest, sea and the local fishing pirogues.

    My primary advice is to make sure you read the brief properly!
