  no - the final product must be an indesign document. you may of course make elements in illustrtor which is placed / linked in indesign, but customizable elements (text/images) must be indesign so end user can edit them

I don't get this. How these templates could be flexible enough for the customers, who want to play around with pictures and texting. I see some templates here are quite non-flexible( taking pictures and backgrounds)and can be here-on used as only like a greeting card.

  sorry - in order for the template (and future templates) to be of any use the original must be indesgin. this because our software generates an online editable version of the indesign document.
