Contest Brief

Hi
I've been studying the impacts of video games on children and young people and get asked to do presentations regularly. This is now ramping up and I need a number of visualisations to assist in the communication of this message. This is the first illustration i'd like to get done.

I need an illustration/photo that visualises the benefits and concerns of playing video games. This illustration will be used in presentations, on a website and in infographics.

The benefits are:
Cognitive development (strategy development, problem solving skills, decision making skills under stress)
Social development (video game community, building relationships through video games, connecting online)
Emotional development (expressing yourself, experimenting with identity through avatars)
Motivational development (using video games to learn skills, engage young people in positive change...)

The concerns are:
Excessive video game playing (leading to bad health, school drop-out, relationship breakdown, isolation)
Link with mental health (Depression, social anxiety)
Screen time for children is linked to behavioural issues
Gambling games/apps mimic real life gambling and may lower the barriers of getting into real gambling
Violence and inappropriate content in video games

This is obviously a super short list/explanation of the benefits and concerns. If you need more specific information please email me.

I'm trying to raise awareness about this in a balanced/neutral way. The message is that video games can be good or bad for you, depending on who you are and what you're dealing with. It's not just one or the other.

The illustration needs to be appropriate for professional use and be family friendly.

Feel free to email ideas before actual illustrating

Thanks!
Steven

looks like you have to resize the textboxes now to make the text fit nicely without empty lines. Please dont just replace the text but also adjust the textboxes to make it all look perfect.

    Dear CH,

When do you think you will choose the winner? Have you decided anything?

an idea could be: A kid sits in his bedroom playing a console game. The illustration looks at him from the tv (point of view). On the left of the room are all the positive items, a well lit room, nice window, study books,... on the right the room is dark, closed curtains, fastfood, messy room, a bad relationship... The kid has the same split. left he's clean and happy, right he's anxious and unkept.
