     When I am using my computer or when I am working. I like to keep my gadgets in front of me while they charge their battery. So I can see anything I need in a comfortable way.

  Which part needs to be universal? The charger or the dock itself.

     The dock needs to be able to hold any standard mobile device and as such must accommodate the related charger. So, if you are going to have a hole somewhere in which you insert a plug make it large enough to fit any size charger width, height, depth wise. However, you may not even intend to have an insertion area.
