The product I am looking to design and manufacture is a "multi-purpose basket trolley"
I need to decide upon a design – which meets the criteria; to be clear on a manufacturing process and or assembly method; short-list and select a manufacturer; build a prototype; launch the product.
Marketing, distribution and management requirements are being addressed separately.
A fully produced unit needs to come in at under $30. Your submission needs to consider a minimum production run size that could achieve this target. i.e. 50 units/500 units/5000 units. The lower the better. I am open to manufacturing anywhere in the world. Eg. China.
The unit can be described as a multi-purpose basket trolley.
It needs to carry 2 baskets that can be easily detached and reattached.
When in a stationary position, and when being pushed, the baskets need to remain flat in that they could contain items that could fall out.
The lower basket needs to be accessible i.e. user can access the basket contents.
The baskets need to be detachable from the trolley. The trolley needs to be able to collapsed or folded down. The baskets and trolley need to be able to be easily put into or taken out of a car. The steps of doing this ie. Removing baskets, placing in car, collapsing trolley, placing in car – need to be thought through. The unit needs to take minimum car space – and fit into the boot or rear seat section of the car.
Basket dimensions should be about LxW, say 600ml x 400ml and depth 350ml. It is possible we will build s small and larger model – as such you can vary the basket size if it is essential to your design.
The finished unit needs to look appealing – in shape, texture and colour. The handle may have soft rubber grips. Mainly for cosmetics appeal.
The basket needs to be manoeuvrable - able to be pushed or pulled across various surfaces in a domestic, industrial or school environment. Normal paths, nature strips, short lawns, gravel paths, or across gutters or up steps.
A such all wheel or the rear wheels will need to be of adequate size.
The unit needs to be robust and look and feel robust.
At this stage I need a rough drawing, illustrating the design you think will meet the requirement, and brief comments on materials, construction and cost. Obviously, all 3 areas will need to be further refined once I have awarded the project to you. I will be looking for evidence of smart design, innovative thinking re design , construction and application, type of materials (possibly a composite plastic??), usability, etc., and some evidence you understand the considerations of moving our finished design to a quality manufacturing/production process.
Once I have decided upon the contest winner, I will share additional information regarding requirements and application. We will also discuss additional costs you require to work further on this project.
