Contest Brief

Overview

We would like you to have design options for a duplex design on the attached block. The existing building would be removed. We would like rough sketch designs (quick hand drawn, but clear options) that fit the details below.

Unfortunately, options that do not attempt to meet with the requirements below will be rejected.

Building regulations/considerations

1. Offset from street 7.5m
2. Offset from side (ground floor) 900mm
3. Offset from side (2nd story) 1500mm
4. Max floor total space 450m2 (i.e. 225m2 each)


General

1. Ultra-modern, executive with family that likes entertaining focus…
2. Low/no maintenance
3. Quick easy construction
a. Rectangular design
b. low cost, not cheap
c. Built from standard components with a clever design to make it seem bespoke.
d. Only ‘off the shelf’ components
e. No curves, all straight lines
4. Lots of natural light

6. French doors opening out to large covered entertaining area with BBQ
7. Oversized entry door, single door with the pivot point 2/3’s down door.

a. Decent size (3x3?)

a. Space to put up 2 x drying racks if needed
b. A lot of built in cupboards to store linen etc.

1. 1.5 car garage (Fit a big car + motor bike/workbench)

4. Storage/shed for garden ‘stuff’

Fittings/Fixtures

1. Double or Triple glazed windows

    Hello there, I presume from the currency that the location is Australia, i.e. southern hemisphere. So you need to get your natural light primarily from the northern side? Also, triple glazing ? would you not prefer to stick with double glazing and invest the savings in energy efficient appliances and devices ?

    Hi everyone, I have changed the brief to relax the 'autocad' requirement as I understand it is/was a lot more effort than I thought orginally. Please submit just a quick 'rough sketch' style design that meets the general requirements and is in keeping with the 'houzz' items that we like.

    Thanks for the feedback everyone. Clearly I have under estimated the effort involved. I also see now that a contest is probably not the right approach for this type of work.
