Contest Brief

About us
We are a hostel tech company. Thousands of guests across Europe use our group chat every day.

We just made big updates to our group chat feature and need to be sure it works perfectly.

Your task
- Open this link on your phones and test notifications PWA and the group chat:
https://profile.freeguides.com/Yq9ffnANvzeydCmN6daXx3UqJb63
- Test on both iOS (iPhone) and Android if you can. More devices tested = better.
- Put yourself in the guest's shoes
- Pretend you are a real guest staying at a hostel. You are travelling, maybe tired, using your own phone.

- How does it feel to use the group chat in this situation?
- Would you want to join and keep using it?
- What would make you stop or get annoyed?
- How can we make this the best group chat for hostel guests?

What we want you to check
- The PWA (notifications) must be installed (Add to Home Screen) before a user can send chat messages. Does this gate work?
- Does the install pop-up appear at the right time, in a way that makes sense?
- Do notifications arrive correctly when a new message is sent?
- Do notifications stop after a guest's checkout date?
- Does tapping a notification open the correct chat?
- How does it feel to use? Is anything confusing or slow?

Onboarding and joining the chat
- Think about the full journey of a new guest joining the group chat for the first time.
- Is it clear how to join the chat?
- Is the sign-up step simple, or does it ask for too much?
- Does the install step feel natural, or does it interrupt at a bad moment?
- Would a new guest understand what to do without help?
- How could this whole flow be improved to get more guests joining and chatting?

Focus areas
- This is mostly about UX: when popups appear, how they look, and how easy the whole flow feels. - - We also want people who think creatively and suggest smart solutions to any problems they find.

How to submit
- Send us a simple 1-page report. No long documents.

Just:
- What you tested (device + browser)
- What worked
- What did not work
- Any ideas to make it better

The best tester wins the project, we are looking for:
- Clear, simple, well-organised testing
- Genuine, creative ideas and solutions
- Good attention to UX detail

Keep it short and clear. Quality over quantity.

1 Do you need testing performed on specific iOS and Android versions, or should I test on all available devices I have access to?

2 Will you provide test scenarios for notification expiry and checkout dates, or should I create and validate those workflows independently?

Hi! I submitted Entry #9 . Putting myself in a guest's shoes, I focused on UI/UX first and uncovered multiple friction points (like the frozen input box and wrong country flags).
    Please review!

    1. How are you determining a guest’s checkout boundary for notification shutdown, and do you want that verified against timezone changes or only the hostel’s local time?
    2. For the install gate, should message send be blocked only until Add to Home Screen is completed, or is there a separate condition tied to notification permission state that also needs validation?
    3. When a notification is tapped, is the expected destination always a single group thread, or are there cases where deep linking depends on property, stay, or guest session state?
