The attached is the home page of our mobile app. The icons at the top left and right of the screen are buttons used to reveal the side menu and filter search results respectively.
Our users have reported that this is confusing as they do not know that those icons are tappable. I need a designer to update the layout to improve the user experience so users know to click on the "e" and "filter" icons. I'm not sure what will work best, I have a few options (below), but feel free to do whatever you think is best.
1. Adding a background around the icons
2. Replacing the icons
3. Adding some weight behind
Attached is an older version of the source file, the icon changes can be made there.
I work for a software development company, so additional work for the chosen freelancer is likely.
